  1. 16. Coal and Oil: The Dark Monarchs of Global Energy : Understanding Supply and Extraction Patterns and their Importance for Future Production

    Författare :Mikael Höök; Kjell Aleklett; David Rutledge; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; oil production; coal production; depletion rate; forecasting; energy supply; Physics; Fysik; Other earth sciences; Övrig geovetenskap; Physical planning; Fysisk planläggning; Other engineering physics; Övrig teknisk fysik; Physics with specialization in Global Energy Resources; Fysik med inriktning mot globala energiresurser;

    Sammanfattning : The formation of modern society has been dominated by coal and oil, and together these two fossil fuels account for nearly two thirds of all primary energy used by mankind.  This makes future production a key question for future social development and this thesis attempts to answer whether it is possible to rely on an assumption of ever increasing production of coal and oil. 2. 17. Linear response theory : from black hole thermalization to Weyl semimetals

    Författare :Jorge Laraña Aragón; Bo Sundborg; Edwin Langman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Linear response theory is an incredibly powerful calculation tool. We apply this framework in quantum field theory to a variety of models originated from distinct areas in theoretical physics and for different reasons. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Inference of Hierarchical Structure in Complex Systems

    Författare :Olof Görnerup; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein evolution; Substitution groups; Modularity; Hierarchical dynamics; RNA world; Genetic code; Aggregation; Primordial evolution; Molecular evolution; Model reduction; Self-organization; Lumping; Emergence; Coarse graining;

    Sammanfattning : Hierarchical organization is a central property of complex systems. It is even argued that a system is required to be hierarchical in order to evolve complexity within reasonable time. A hierarchy of a system is defined as the set of self-contained levels at which the system operates and can be described on. LÄS MER

  4. 19. First Determination of the Electric Charge of the Top Quark and Studies of the Top Quark Pair Background to New Physics

    Författare :Per Hansson; Bengt Lund-Jensen; Jorgen D'Hondt; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with experimental investigations of properties of the top quark and processes involving this particle. In the first part of the thesis, the first determination of the electric charge of the top quark is presented. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Nanoscale structure forming processes : Metal thin films grown far-from-equilibrium

    Författare :Viktor Elofsson; Kostas Sarakinos; Robert D. Boyd; Diederik Depla; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Thin film growth from the vapor phase has for a long time intrigued researchers endeavouring to unravel and understand atomistic surface processes that govern film formation. Their motivation has not been purely scientific, but also driven by numerous applications where this understanding is paramount to knowledge-based design of novel film materials with tailored properties.
