  1. 1. Supporting loose forms of collaboration : Using Linked Data to realize an architecture for collective knowledge construction

    Författare :Hannes Ebner; Marko Turpeinen; Ambjörn Naeve; John Breslin; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; linked data; collaboration; information model; contribution; application architecture; web application; web standards; www; open world assumption; Informations- och kommunikationsteknik; Information and Communication Technology; Media Technology; Medieteknik; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is driven by the motivation to explore a way of working collaboratively that closely reflects the World Wide Web (WWW), more specifically the potential of the Web architecture built on Semantic Web technologies and Linked Data. The goal is to describe a generic approach and architecture that satisfies the needs for loose collaboration and collective knowledge construction as exemplified by the applications described in this thesis. 2. 2. Contribution of ICT to Climate Targets of Cities : Exploring the potential of Information and Communication Technologies in reducing emissions and energy use from buildings and travel

    Författare :Anna Kramers; Mattias Höjer; Åsa Svenfelt; Anders Gullberg; Marko Turpeinen; Magnus Enell; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines how ICT solutions can assist in lowering energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from buildings and travel in order to help cities meet their climate targets. It also provides an overview of relevant research intended to furnish new knowledge about the issues involved and to find solutions to social problems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Is the medium the message? : The impact of digital media on the newspaper concept

    Författare :Sara Leckner; Marko Turpeinen; Saara Taalas; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Newspaper publishing; newspaper industry; strategy; convergence; new media; digital media; electronic media; display technology; media technology; presentation-style; user interface; newspaper layout; reading behaviour; perception; newspaper consumption; consumer needs; Media and communication studies; Medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The impact of digital (new) media has caused both challenges and threats to newspapers’ continuing existence as a profitable and influential mass medium. While this is not the first time in history that new media appear to be challenging the future of the newspaper medium, from one perspective digital media offer not only direct competition, or alternative ways to produce and deliver news, but also possibilities for convergence, for making new media part of the traditional newspaper, inducing whole new possibilities for publishing. 4. 4. From Interoperability to Harmonization in Metadata Standardization : Designing an Evolvable Framework for Metadata Harmonization

    Författare :Mikael Nilsson; Ambjörn Naeve; Nils Enlund; Marko Turpeinen; Stuart Sutton; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metadata; dublin core; IEEE LOM; RDF; semantic web; interoperability; standardization; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Metadata is an increasingly central tool in the current web environment, enabling large-scale, distributed management of resources. Recent years has seen a growth in interaction between previously relatively isolated metadata communities, driven by a need for cross-domain collaboration and exchange. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Learning Applications based on Semantic Web Technologies

    Författare :Matthias Palmér; Marko Turpeinen; Ambjörn Naeve; Dragan Gašević; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Semantic Web; Linked Data; Web Applications; Technology Enhanced Learning; REST;

    Sammanfattning : The interplay between learning and technology is a growing field that is often referred to as Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). Within this context, learning applications are software components that are useful for learning purposes, such as textbook replacements, information gathering tools, communication and collaboration tools, knowledge modeling tools, rich lab environments that allows experiments etc. LÄS MER
