  1. 1. DNA-Controlled Lipid-Membrane Fusion

    Författare :Lisa Simonsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; exocytosis; vesicles; DNA; FRET; fluorescence resonance energy transfer; model system; total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy; TIRF microscopy; self-assembly; site-specificity; diffusion; biomembranes; lipid bilayer; membrane fusion;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. We have demonstrated that short DNA oligonucleotides, membrane-attached via CH in an orientation that mimics the overall zipperlike architecture of fusion-inducing proteins, induce fusion of both suspended vesicles and vesicles site-specifically tethered to SLBs. 2. 2. The involvement of calcium and membrane fusion events in neutrophil secretion and respiratory burst

    Författare :Daniel Granfeldt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neutrophils; calcium; regulated secretion; membrane fusion; SOC; arachidonic acid; intracellular fusion; oxygen free radicals; phagocytosis;

    Sammanfattning : Neutrophil granulocytes play an important role in host defence during the early stages of microbial infection. The neutrophils have to leave the blood stream and migrate out into the tissue where they are able to phagocytose and kill microbes as well as dispose of cell debris from damaged tissues. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Activation of retrovirus spikes for membrane fusion

    Författare :Robin Löving; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Retroviruses are enveloped viruses that use reverse transcriptase to convert their RNA genome into DNA which is integrated into the host DNA. They enter into the cell by a membrane fusion process. In this the viral membrane fuses with that of the cell so that the internal capsid of the virus with the genome can be released into the cell cytoplasm. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lipid Vesicle Fusion: Investigation, Generation and Manipulation of Cell-Membrane Mimics

    Författare :Lisa Simonsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; diffusion; spreading lipid bilayers; cell mimic; micromanipulation; lipid bilayer; microfluidics; site-specificity; DNA; membrane-receptor interactions; total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy; model system; self-assembly; TIRF microscopy; FRET; exocytosis; vesicles; fluorescence resonance energy transfer; biomembranes; amperometry; membrane fusion;

    Sammanfattning : Membrane fusion is essential for nerve-cell communication, for protein transport between cell organelles and the cell-membrane and for enabling the merger between virus and host membranes during virus infection. In this work, cell-membrane mimics were constructed and evaluated as models for studies of the membrane-fusion process. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies of SNAP-25 in regulated membrane fusion : metabolic consequences and tuning of intracellular Ca(2+) dynamics in beta cells

    Författare :Teresa Daraio; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Increased release of insulin is usually regarded as a symptom of metabolic syndrome, contributing to insulin resistance in peripheral organs thus affecting glucose and insulin homeostasis. The existing animal models to address the metabolic syndrome are currently not optimal. LÄS MER
