  1. 6. Functional studies of Wilms’ tumor gene 1 (WT1) in hematopoiesis and leukemia

    Författare :Helena Svedberg; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; K562; U937; CD34 ; leukemia; WT1; hematopoiesis; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : Wilms’ tumor gene 1 (WT1) is a zinc-finger transcription factor that is involved in the development of urogenital organs and mesothelial tissues. It was initially identified as a tumor suppressor gene, based on the observation that somatic inactivation of the gene predispose for development of the pediatric kidney cancer Wilms’ tumor. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Deciphering the Pathogenesis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia

    Författare :Kristian Reckzeh; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoiesis; Hematopoietic Stem Cell; AML; FLT3; C EBPalpha;

    Sammanfattning : Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a malignant disorder of the blood system. Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) supply and maintain this system by differentiating via intermediates into lineage-restricted progenitors that strongly proliferate to keep up with the high turn-over of mature blood cells. 3. 8. Gene Expression Studies of Hematologic Malignacies

    Författare :Anna Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Haematology; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; oncology; Cytology; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; normal hematopoietic cells; cDNA microarray; gene expression profiling; hematopoiesis; pediatric leukemia; fusion gene; Pediatrics; Pediatri; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancerology; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to characterize hematologic malignancies using gene expression profiling in order to obtain an improved classification and to study deregulated transcriptional networks in leukemia. In the first study (Article I), the gene expression profiles of hematologic cell lines were analyzed to investigate whether such cell lines maintain expression profiles that are characteristic of their primary genetic changes. 4. 9. Molecular and functional studies of the BCR/ABL1 fusion gene

    Författare :Petra Johnels; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; Haematology; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; gene expression profiling; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; chronic myeloid leukemia; Ph chromosome; BCR ABL; extracellulära vätskor; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : The BCR/ABL1 fusion gene is associated with chronic myeloid leukemia and a subgroup of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The general aim of this thesis was to increase the understanding of BCR/ABL1-induced leukemogenesis by molecular and functional studies of this fusion gene. LÄS MER

  5. 10. How can p53 induce differentiation of leukemic cells?

    Författare :Kristina Drott; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; extracellular fluids; p53-differentiation-p21-WT1-leukemia; Hematologi; Haematology; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : The terminal differentiation of leukemic cells is closely connected to their death. The concept of differentiation therapy originates from the idea that forced maturation of leukemic cells could induce cell death without the side-effects that are provoked by ordinary chemotherapy.
