  1. 1. Population-based studies on acute leukemias - lessons from the Swedish Adult Acute Leukemia Registry

    Författare :Lovisa Vennström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute leukemia; population-based; incidence; survival; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; acute promyelocytic leukemia; early death;

    Sammanfattning : Acute leukemia (AL) is a rare, potentially curable, aggressive neoplasm of hematopoietic origin. AL is a heterogeneous disease and is further subdivided according to clinical and biological features. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The aims of the studies described in this thesis were to investigate the pharmacokinetics of and cellular resistance to chemotherapy as causes of treatment failure in childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).Leukemic cells from 370 children with newly diagnosed ALL were tested by the Fluorometric Microculture Cytotoxicity Assay to measure their resistance to each of ten standard cytotoxic drugs. 3. 3. Molecular Genetic Characterization of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with a Poor Prognosis

    Författare :Setareh Safavi; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Acute lymphoblastic leukemia; hypodiploidy; adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia;

    Sammanfattning : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) affects individuals at all ages, with peak incidences in children 50 years. ALL is broadly categorized into B-cell precursor (BCP) and T-cell ALL with specific clinical features associated with outcome. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Leukemic stem cells (LSCs) share the capacity of self renewal and extensive proliferation with normal hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and are therefore obvious targets for therapy. As such, they need to be identified and characterized in order to elucidate what drives them, and what separates them from their normal counterparts. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Gene Expression and DNA Methylation in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

    Författare :Jessica Nordlund; Syvänen Ann-Christine; Xavier Estivill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Digital gene expression; Allele-specific gene expression; DNA methylation; Epigenetics; Acute lymphoblastic leukemia; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in children, which results from the malignant transformation of progenitor cells in the bone marrow into leukemic cells. The precise mechanisms for this transformation are not well defined, however recent studies suggest that aberrant regulation of gene expression or DNA methylation may play an important role. LÄS MER
