1. Regulation of Ovarian Aromatase: Studies by Aromatase Assays in vitro and in vivo
Sammanfattning : An in vitro method was developed for measuring aromatase, based on binding of competitive aromatase inhibitor [11C]vorozole to the active site of the enzyme. [11C]Vorozole displayed high, specific binding in vitro to human placenta and human granulosa cells (GC), both fresh and frozen/thawed cells, provided correct procedures were used. LÄS MER
2. In silico tools in risk assessment : of industrial chemicals in general and non-dioxin-like PCBs in particular
Sammanfattning : Industrial chemicals in European Union produced or imported in volumes above 1 tonne annually, necessitate a registration within REACH. A common problem, concerning these chemicals, is deficient information and lack of data for assessing the hazards posed to human health and the environment. LÄS MER
3. Acetylcholine in Spinal Pain Modulation : An in vivo Study in the Rat
Sammanfattning : The spinal cord is an important component in the processing and modulation of painful stimuli. Nerve signals from the periphery are relayed and further conducted to the brain (nociception) in the spinal cord, and the most essential modulation of painful information (antinociception) occurs here. 4. Chemosensitivity in Breast Cancer
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer mortality in Sweden is now in decline, thanks to early detection and the wide use of adjuvant endocrine therapy and chemotherapy. While hormone receptor status is predictive of response to endocrine treatment, there is no clinically useful predictive marker of a patient’s response to chemotherapy. LÄS MER
5. Gliadin-Blocking Peptides In vitro assessment of their potential to alleviate celiac disease development
Sammanfattning : This thesis work aimed to investigate the potential of synthetic peptides as agents to block wheat prolamins (gliadins) that trigger the development of symptoms in celiac disease. The first step of this investigation included selection and synthesis of peptides with high affinity to gliadins and assessment of the potential of these so-called blocking peptides to limit gliadin reactivity in vitro.
