  1. 1. Experimental study of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow

    Författare :Shintaro Imayama; Henrik Alfredsson; Rebecca Lingwood; Benoît Pier; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; boundary layer; rotating disk; laminar-turbulent transition; convective instability; absolute instability; secondary instability; crossflow instability; hot-wire anemometry.;

    Sammanfattning : Rotating-disk flow has been investigated not only as a simple model of cross flow instability to compare with swept-wing flow but also for industrial flow applications with rotating configurations. However the exact nature of laminar-turbulent transi- tion on the rotating-disk flow is still major problem and further research is required for it to be fully understood, in particular, the laminar-turbulent transition process with absolute instability. 2. 2. Direct numerical simulations of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow

    Författare :Ellinor Appelquist; Philipp Schlatter; Henrik Alfredsson; Rebecca Lingwood; Christopher Davies; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Fluid mechanics; boundary layer; rotating disk; laminar-turbulent transition; convective instability; absolute instability; secondary instability; crossflow instability; direct numerical simulations; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the instabilities of the incompressible boundary-layer flow that is induced by a disk rotating in otherwise still fluid. The results presented are mostly limited to linear instabilities derived from direct numerical simulations (DNS) but with the objective that further work will focus on the nonlinear regime, providing greater insights into the transition route to turbulence. 3. 3. Nanosized Bilayer Disks as Model Membranes for Interaction Studies

    Författare :Anna Lundquist; Katarina Edwards; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Disk; disc; lipid bilayer; PEG-lipid; model membrane; interaction; partitioning; drug; liposome; cryo-TEM; neutron scattering; capillary electrophoresis; immobilization; biosensor; membrane protein; melittin; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Sammanfattning : PEG-lipid stabilized bilayer disks have been found in lipid mixtures containing polyethylene glycol (PEG)-lipids where the combination of a high bending rigidity and low PEG-lipid/lipid miscibility favours disk formation. The disks are planar and circular in shape and their long-term stability is excellent. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the structure and dynamics of Saturn's inner plasma disk

    Författare :Mika Holmberg; Jan-Erik Wahlund; Jean-Pierre Lebreton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Saturn; E-ring; plasma disk; Space and Plasma Physics; Rymd- och plasmafysik;

    Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis presents our investigation of Saturn's inner plasma disk. The thesis gives an overview of the Cassini-Huygens project, what a plasma is and how we use the Langmuir probe to investigate it, various difficulties related to the measurements, the structure of the magnetosphere of Saturn, with special focus on the inner magnetosphere and the region around the Saturnian moon Enceladus. 5. 5. High Power, Long Wavelength Semiconductor Disk Lasers for Continuous and Mode-Locked Operation

    Författare :Hans Lindberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mode-locking; thermal management; spectral properties; optically pumped; single frequency; beam quality; vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser; disk laser; Semiconductor laser;

    Sammanfattning : The semiconductor disk laser has recentlyemerged as an attractive alternative to bulky and power consuming gas and solid state lasers. It offers compact, powerful and efficient devices with W level output power and beam properties earlier not achieved with semiconductor lasers. LÄS MER
