1. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. LÄS MER
2. Direct numerical simulations of the rotating-disk boundary-layer flow
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the instabilities of the incompressible boundary-layer flow that is induced by a disk rotating in otherwise still fluid. The results presented are mostly limited to linear instabilities derived from direct numerical simulations (DNS) but with the objective that further work will focus on the nonlinear regime, providing greater insights into the transition route to turbulence. 3. The rotating-disk boundary-layer flow studied through numerical simulations
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the instabilities of the incompressible boundary-layer flow thatis induced by a disk rotating in otherwise still fluid. The results presented include bothwork in the linear and nonlinear regime and are derived from direct numerical sim-ulations (DNS). LÄS MER
4. A new experimental setup for studies on wake flow instability and its control
Sammanfattning : A new experimental setup for studies on wake flow instability and its control, which has been designed and manufactured, is introduced and described. The main body is a dual-sided flat plate with an elliptic leading edge and a blunt trailing edge. LÄS MER
5. Experimental design and vortex analyses in turbulent wake flows
Sammanfattning : A new experimental setup for studies on wake flow instability and its control that successfully has been designed and manufactured, is introduced and de- scribed. The main body is a dual-sided flat plate with an elliptic leading edge and a blunt trailing edge. LÄS MER
