  1. 1. Partitioning of Drugs and Lignin Precursor Models into Artificial Membranes

    Författare :Elisabet Boija; Gunnar Johansson; Per Lundahl; Christine Lagerquist Hägglund; Marja-Liisa Riekkola; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biochemistry; Bilayer disk; Capillary electrophoresis; Detergent; Drug; Electrostatic interaction; Hydrophobic interaction; Immobilized liposome chromatography; Lignin; Lignin precursor model; Liposome; Membrane model; Octanol water partitioning; Partitioning; Phospholipid; Phospholipid bilayer; Sterol; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to characterize membrane-solute interactions using artificial membranes in immobilized liposome chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. The partitioning of a solute into a cell membrane is an essential step in diffusion across the membrane. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Efficient Partitioning of Dynamic Structured Grid Hierarchies

    Författare :Johan Steensland; Michael Thuné; Jarmo Rantakokko; Charles Norton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; scientific computing; partitioning; structured grids; adaptive mesh refinement; dynamic load balancing; Beräkningsvetenskap; Scientific Computing;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at decreasing execution time for large-scale structured adaptive mesh refinement (SAMR) applications executing on general parallel computers. The key contributions are (1) A conceptual dynamically adaptive meta-partitioner able to select and configure an appropriate partitioning technique, based on application and computer state, and (2) A characterization of new and existing domain-based partitioners, enabling a mapping from application and computer state onto appropriate partitioners, and (3) Sketched scalable solutions, expressed in terms of natural regions and expert algorithms, for the problem to efficiently partition large-scale SAMR applications with deep grid hierarchies executing on general parallel computers, and (4) A software partitioning tool Nature+Fable, implementing the greater parts of these sketched scalable solutions and engineered as part of the meta-partitioner. 3. 3. Protein Surfaces Probed by Aqueous Two-phase Partitioning

    Författare :Kristina Berggren; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; partitioning; Aqueous two-phase systems; protein surface; peptide; Biochemistry; amino acid residue; Biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned primarily with peptide and protein partitioning in aqueous two-phase systems and the connection between partitioning behavior and protein structure. The surface properties of a protein is often crucial for recognition and interaction with other molecules. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Partitioning and persistence of volatile methylsiloxanes in aquatic environments

    Författare :Dimitrios Panagopoulos; Matthew MacLeod; Annika Jahnke; Amelie Kierkegaard; Whelan Mick; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; siloxanes; organic carbon; sediment; partitioning; persistence; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of volatile methylsiloxanes (VMS) in the environment has raised concerns among environmental chemists and regulators about their persistence and the risks they may pose to the environment. This thesis explores the partitioning and persistence of VMS in aquatic environments. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Graph Partitioning and Planted Partitions

    Författare :Mikael Onsjö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; planted partition; graph bisection; algorithms; graphs; graph partitioning; clustering;

    Sammanfattning : Graph partitioning is the problem of splitting a graph into two or morepartitions of fixed sizes while minimizing the number of edges that are “cut”.This is an important problem with a wide range of applications in fields suchas VLSI design, parallel processing, bioinformatics, data mining etc. LÄS MER
