  1. 41. Membrane mechanisms during exo- and endocytosis in excitable cells

    Författare :Gianvito Arpino; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Excitable cells, like endocrine cells and neurons release hormones and transmitters through exocytosis to mediate many important functions, such as stress responses, immune responses, control of blood glucose, and synaptic transmission that mediates communication between neurons in the brain. This process relies on delicate endocytic mechanisms, to retrieve vesicular membranes and proteins previously fused at the plasma membrane and thus maintains the ability of exocytosis for excitable cells. 2. 42. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor and endocannabinoid functions in gabaergic interneuron development

    Författare :Paul Berghuis; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Formation of the cerebral cortex is controlled by tightly regulated processes: the proliferation and survival decisions of neural progenitors, radial and tangential migration of neuronal precursors, axon guidance and dendritic growth underpinning the formation of synapses. Patterning of the neocortex has been extensively studied and significant progress has been made in understanding the principles of cortical neuronal circuit formation. LÄS MER

  3. 43. Neuromodulation, Short-Term and Long-Term Plasticity in Corticothalamic and Hippocampal Neuronal Networks

    Författare :Sofie Sundberg; Björn Granseth; Fredrik Elinder; Eric Hanse; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Research in neuroscience relies to a large extent on the use of genetically modified animals. Extensive validation of new and existing models is a requirement for the acquisition of trustworthy data and to enable generalization to human physiology and disease. LÄS MER

  4. 44. The Human Spiral Ganglion

    Författare :Sven Tylstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; human spiral ganglion; ultrastructural morphology; neural interaction; synaptophysin; connexin; membrane specializations; synapse; gap junction; tight junction; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Our knowledge of the fine structure of the Human Spiral Ganglion (HSG) is still inadequate and new treatment techniques for deafness using electric stimulation, call for further information and studies on the neuronal elements of the human cochlea. This thesis presents results of analyses of human cochlear tissue and specimens obtained during neurosurgical transpetrosal removal of life-threatening meningeomas. LÄS MER

  5. 45. Mitochondria-endoplasmic reticulum contacts in neuronal cells : from physiology to therapeutics

    Författare :Giacomo Dentoni; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) are intracellular organelles that play vital physiological functions. Mitochondria are key players in energy production through adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production and calcium (Ca2+) buffering, while the ER is involved in protein and lipid synthesis along with Ca2+ signalling in the cell.
