31. A study on axially rotating pipe and swirling jet flows
Sammanfattning : The present study is an experimental and numerical investigation on rotating flows. A special facility has been built in order to produce a turbulent swirling jet generated by a fully developed rotating pipe flow and a Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) code has been used to support and to complement the experimental data. 32. Entrained flow gasification of biomass: soot formation and flame stability
Sammanfattning : Entrained flow gasification (EFG) is a well-proven, commercially available technology for large scale coal gasification processes, with a production of a high quality syngas (a mixture of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen (H2), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and other compounds). For biomass, the process is still under development and there are several hurdles that must be cleared before it can become commercial. LÄS MER
33. Effects of boundary conditions and unsteadiness on draft tube flow
Sammanfattning : The present research focuses on flow properties of the elbow draft tube. This element has a major function in low head turbines, since up to half of the losses may arise there at part load. The use of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) to redisign a draft tube necessitates detailed knowledged of the boundary conditions. LÄS MER
34. Some Mathematical Aspects of Thermo and Fluid Dynamics
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains mathematical treatments of three issues in thermo and fluid dynamics: swirling jets and vortex breakdown, Taylor's hypothesis and conjugate heat transfer. The work on swirling jets is focused on the study of the well-posedness of the conically self-similar free-vortex solutions to the Navier--Stokes equations. LÄS MER
35. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. LÄS MER
