  1. 1. Experimental studies in jet flows and zero pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers

    Författare :Ramis Örlü; P. Henrik Alfredsson; Tim B. Nickels; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Axisymmetric jet; swirling jet; coaxial jet; heated jet; zero pressuregradient turbulent boundary layer; wall-bounded turbulent flows; overlap region; passive scalar mixing; hot-wire anemometry; spatial resolution.; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the description and development of two classical turbulent shear flows, namely free jet and flat plate turbulent boundary layer flows. In both cases new experimental data has been obtained and in the latter case comparisons are also made with data obtained from data bases, both of experimental and numerical origin. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Brain activity associated with episodic memory : similarities and differences between encoding and retrieval

    Författare :Jonas Persson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Episodic memory; encoding; retrieval; positron emission tomography PET ; enactment; overlap; retrieval mode; retrieval success; novelty;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the mnemonic functions of the brain has been extensively facilitated by the development of functional neuroimaging techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The present thesis aims at investigating the neural mechanisms underlying memory for personally experienced events (episodic memory), using PET. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Swedish seagrass ecosystems in a changing climate : Coastal connectivity and global change sensitivity

    Författare :Diana Perry; Martin Gullström; Jason Hall-Spencer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coastal seascape; shallow-water ecosystems; fish assemblages; connectivity; global change; climate change; multiple stressors; seagrass; Zostera marina; temperate region; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Coastal shallow-water ecosystems are essential for providing several goods and services globally, with seagrasses as an important contributor for maintaining high biodiversity and productivity within the nearshore seascape. The temperate species Zostera marina serves as a vital habitat for many species, including ecologically and economically important juvenile fish. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Spark Assisted Compression Ignition, SACI

    Författare :Håkan Persson; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; flame propagation; PLIF; LDV; chemiluminescence imaging; residuals; negative valve overlap; low temperature combustion; SACI; spark assistance; HCCI; turbulence; charge stratification; cycle to cycle;

    Sammanfattning : The strong focus on decreasing carbon dioxide emissions due to limited natural resources of fossil fuel as well as alarming climate changes drives the research and development of our prime mover, the combustion engine, faster then ever. The minimum requirement is a power source with increased efficiency while emitting ultra low levels of hazardous local and regional emissions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. On Turbulent Wall Jets

    Författare :Hans Abrahamsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-preservation; similarity theory; scaling laws; local flow reversals; high turbulence levels; turbulent kinetic energy budget; two-dimensional; turbulent; hot-wire anemometry; wall jet; three-dimensional; pulsed hot-wire anemometry;

    Sammanfattning : An experimental investigation of the two- and three-dimensional turbulent wall jets has been conducted. The measurements have been performed using different hot-wire techniques in large scale wall jet facilities, and the measurements were focused on the fully-developed region of the flow. LÄS MER
