  1. 1. Some Mathematical Aspects of Thermo and Fluid Dynamics

    Författare :Carl Fredrik Stein; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; swirling jets; vortex breakdown; conical self-similarity; Long s jet; Taylor s hypothesis; frozen turbulence hypothesis; advection velocity; conjugate heat transfer; asymptotic analysis; swirling jets;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contains mathematical treatments of three issues in thermo and fluid dynamics: swirling jets and vortex breakdown, Taylor's hypothesis and conjugate heat transfer. The work on swirling jets is focused on the study of the well-posedness of the conically self-similar free-vortex solutions to the Navier--Stokes equations. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Characterisation of Urban Rainfall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

    Författare :Mohamed Nor bin Desa Mohamed; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeology; velocity; vector; monsoon; Malaysia; thunderstorm; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Geophysics; physical oceanography; meteorology; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Rainfall characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are studied in space and time; on a large scale, 550 km2, and long term scale to find out the monsoon influence, and on urban basin scale, 23 km2, to determine dynamic properties of rainfalls and spatial correlations, and on a point scale to determine the probabilities of very high rain intensities. The importance of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall was investigated applying cross correlation on long term historical rainfalls from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On Turbulent Wall Jets

    Författare :Hans Abrahamsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-preservation; similarity theory; scaling laws; local flow reversals; high turbulence levels; turbulent kinetic energy budget; two-dimensional; turbulent; hot-wire anemometry; wall jet; three-dimensional; pulsed hot-wire anemometry;

    Sammanfattning : An experimental investigation of the two- and three-dimensional turbulent wall jets has been conducted. The measurements have been performed using different hot-wire techniques in large scale wall jet facilities, and the measurements were focused on the fully-developed region of the flow. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Computational Characterization of Mixing in Flows

    Författare :Erik D. Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mixing; hyperbolicity; shadowing; finite elements; flow simulation; a priori error estimates; Stokes equations; point location; multigrid; refinements; mixing;

    Sammanfattning : The major theme of this thesis is mathematical aspects of fluid mixing in the case when diffusion is negligible, which is commonly refered to as ’mixing by stirring’ or ’mixing by chaotic advection’ in the engineering literature. In this case the mixing is driven by a velocity field and is characterized by the flow generated by the velocity field. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Atlantic Water in the Nordic Seas : A satellite altimetry perspective on ocean circulation

    Författare :Sara Broomé; Johan Nilsson; Jonas Nycander; Léon Chafik; Michael A. Spall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arctic Ocean climate; ocean heat transport; sea surface height; topographic control; Lagrangian trajectories; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : The Atlantic Water in the Nordic Seas contributes to the mild climate of Northern Europe and is the main oceanic source of heat for the Arctic. The northward bound transport of the warm and saline Atlantic Water is mediated by a topographically constrained cyclonic boundary current along the Norwegian continental slope. LÄS MER
