11. Period integrals and other direct images of D-modules
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers, each touching on a different aspect of the theory of rings of differential operators and D-modules. In particular, an aim is to provide and make explicit good examples of D-module directimages, which are all but absent in the existing literature. LÄS MER
12. Tropical aspects of real polynomials and hypergeometric functions
Sammanfattning : The present thesis has three main topics: geometry of coamoebas, hypergeometric functions, and geometry of zeros.First, we study the coamoeba of a Laurent polynomial f in n complex variables. We define a simpler object, which we call the lopsided coamoeba, and associate to the lopsided coamoeba an order map. LÄS MER
13. Multipoint Okounkov bodies
Sammanfattning : During the nineties, the field medallist Okounkov found a way to associate to an ample line bundle L over an n−complex dimensional projective manifold X a convex body in Rn, now called Okounkov body ∆(L). The construction depends on the choice of a valuation centered at one point p∈X and it works even if L is a big line bundle. LÄS MER
14. Topics in Combinatorial Algebraic Geometry
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of six papers in algebraic geometry –all of which have close connections to combinatorics. In Paper A we consider complete smooth toric embeddings X ↪ P^N such that for a fixed positive integer k the t-th osculating space at every point has maximal dimension if and only if t ≤ k. LÄS MER
15. Mathematical Models and Algorithms for Wireless Network Design and Optimization
Sammanfattning : Optimization techniques always play an important role in designing high-performance wireless systems. This presented thesis studies a selected set of optimization problems for different kinds of wireless networks, making use of mathematical programming techniques to find optimal solutions and of efficient heuristics to find near-optimal solutions.
