  1. 1. Molecular orientation in cellulose fibers and composites

    Författare :Leo Svenningsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; composite; molecular orientation; lignin; solid-state NMR; Raman spectroscopy; fibers; X-ray scattering; carbon fibers; regenerated cellulose;

    Sammanfattning : The scope of this thesis is to quantitatively investigate the molecular orientation distribution of regenerated cellulose fibers and composites. The molecular orientation is known to affect macroscopic properties such as tensile strength of the fiber. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Air-gap spinning of lignin-cellulose fibers

    Författare :Jenny Bengtsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cellulose; carbon fibers; ionic liquid; lignin; air-gap spinning;

    Sammanfattning : Co-processing of lignin and cellulose, the two main constituents of wood, has previously been identified as a potential route for the production of inexpensive and bio-based carbon fibers. The first step in this process is to spin a precursor fiber. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Upgrading Cellulose Networks: Conquering Limitations in Fiber Foams

    Författare :Eliott Jean Quentin Orzan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cross-linking; pore structure; cellular solid; lightweight; porous network; cellulose; flame-retardancy; fibers;

    Sammanfattning : The battle to create structural materials with low environmental impact demands the investiture of two champions: porous structures and cellulose substrates. The dominant solutions when constructing strong lightweight materials are plastic and metallic foams, while currently, cellulose fiber foams suffer from challenges which hamper their development. 4. 4. Melt-processing and properties of thermoplastic composites based on ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer reinforced with wood nanocellulose

    Författare :Abhijit Venkatesh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp fibers; Melt rheology; Composite; Injection moulding; Cellulose; Cellulose nanofibers; Cellulose nanocrystals; Extrusion; Mechanical properties;

    Sammanfattning : Composites reinforced with cellulose nanofibers (CNF), both modified and unmodified cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) and pulp fibers have been prepared through small-scale and large-scale methods. The composites were produced by water-assisted dispersion mixing, drying and compression moulding on the laboratory scale and by extrusion and injection moulding for the large-scale production. 5. 5. Phosphorylated Cellulose Nanofibrils : A Nano-Tool for Preparing Cellulose-Based Flame-Retardant Materials

    Författare :Maryam Ghanadpour; Lars Wågberg; Jeffrey W. Gilman; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phosphorylated cellulose nanofibrils; flame-retardant; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : The growing awareness of the need for a circular society and a circular chemistry has spurred the interest in using wood-based cellulose as a raw material for the preparation of new macroscopic devices and construction materials. The interest has been particularly focused on cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), which has led to the development of new material concepts through a nanoscale bottom-up engineering using renewable CNF.
