Sammanfattning : Grounded in an understanding of tourism as a political phenomenon that has consequential impacts on how we understand people and space, and in an understanding of peacebuilding as a participatory process that must involve ordinary citizens, this thesis explores the relationship between tourism and peace. Taking inspiration from the confidence of global organisations and tourism scholars that tourism has a role in peacebuilding, I explore how tourism could serve to challenge conflicts that are deemed intractable - conflicts that are particularly hard to solve. In post-accord Colombia, however, this promise has been eclipsed by political polarization, serious setbacks in the implementation process, and the surge of violence against human rights defenders. Based on an exploration of the textual process towards an international ecumenicaldeclaration on just peace in the World Council of Churches, it suggests that theology can indeed serve as sucha resource and it sketches how theology can make such a contribution. Sammanfattning : The dissertation discuss, through the case-study of the Israeli peace movement 'Peace Now', the issue of dissent in a democratic context.The tension between the will of the collectivity or nation, as interpreted by a representative government, and the right of the individual conscience to take precedent over that collective will is, together with the discussion about the mechanisms that trigger and allow that dissent to function as exemplified by 'Peace Now', at the core of this study.
