26. Bioinformatic Analysis of Mutation and Selection in the Vertebrate Non-coding Genome
Sammanfattning : The majority of the vertebrate genome sequence is not coding for proteins. In recent years, the evolution of this noncoding fraction of the genome has gained interest. These studies have been greatly facilitated by the availability of full genome sequences. LÄS MER
27. Rates and Patterns of Mutation in Microsatellite DNA
Sammanfattning : Sequence comparisons of orthologous microsatellite loci in cattle and sheep revealed that the substitution rate in microsatellite flanking sequences does not differ from the rate in presumably neutrally evolving intron sequences. This suggests that microsatellites are generally located in regions that are not subjected to selection. LÄS MER
28. Have a fling with your neighbour, you might be less related
Sammanfattning : Major threats to biodiversity and ecosystem persistence are fragmentation of habitats and declining population sizes. For conservation biologists to understand the consequences of declining populations for the long term persistence and recovery of species worldwide, it is important to know and understand the underlying causes of potential threats, such as the depletion of genetic diversity, which is important for populations to be able to adapt and prevail in a changing environment. 29. Trypanosoma cruzi genome plasticity and evolution
Sammanfattning : Trypanosoma cruzi, a protozoan from the Kinetoplastidae family, is the etiologic agent of Chagas disease, a major public health problem affecting mostly the poorest areas of Latin America. Due to the complex nature of the parasite’s genome it has been impossible to produce a complete reference genome sequence, thus hampering the implementation of post- genomic approaches to unveil the mechanisms of generation of antigenic variation and the identification of new drug targets. 30. Significance of molecular genetic alterations and apoptosis in colorectal cancer
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer is a serious health problem in Western societies. In Sweden it is the second most common malignancy among females, and the third in males, and the third leading cause of cancer related death in both sexes. To date it is known that several biological pathways can lead to colorectal cancer. LÄS MER
