16. The pelvic floor and genital prolapse : a clinical, physiological and radiological study
Sammanfattning : Objective: To determine the frequency of concomitant colorectal disorders in patients with rectocele, and to assess any such association with rectocele; to investigate if paradoxical sphincter reaction (PSR) is influenced by the rectal filling volume; to investigate if surface electromyography (EMG) is a reliable method for diagnosing PSR; to evaluate the use of defeco-peritoneography (DP) in patients with an unexplained widening of the rectovaginal space at defecography; to study the long-term results after rectocele repair and to evaluate parameters that might influence the outcome; to evaluate pre- and postoperative findings at cysto-defeco-peritoneography (CDP) in patients with genital prolapse. Methods: EMG of the anal sphincter muscles was carried out and PSR was diagnosed using needle, wire and/or surface electrodes. LÄS MER
17. Pelvic floor dysfunction : a clinical and epidemiological study
Sammanfattning : In a prospective study established in 1990, anal sphincter rupture at delivery was found in 2.4% of women and 47% of these women had problems with fecal incontinence. Although less severe, fecal incontinence was also found among 45% in a comparison group without anal sphincter rupture. LÄS MER
18. Clinical and methodological aspects on perineal laceration diagnostics at childbirth
Sammanfattning : Background: Obstetric perineal lacerations are common after vaginal birth. The degree of obstetric perineal laceration is defined by the extent of tissue involved in the laceration. When a perineal laceration has occurred after vaginal delivery, the examination for correct diagnostics is essential before primary suturing. LÄS MER
19. To tear and to heal : pelvic floor dysfunction and childbirth
Sammanfattning : Background: Up to 80% of women are affected by a perineal laceration after their first vaginal birth. An estimated 40–50% of lacerations involve the perineal muscles, and up to 7% are obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI). LÄS MER
20. Towards better quality of life after radiation therapy by improved response modeling
Sammanfattning : Background: To improve the quality of life of radiotherapy cancer survivors we need to improve our knowledge of the dose, volume and time-response relations of radiotherapy induced late effects. Aims: The aim of the thesis was to investigate predictors for normal-tissue complications of head and neck, and gynecological radiotherapy using response modeling. LÄS MER
