6. 11B4C containing Ni/Ti neutron multilayer mirrors
Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis covers the design, growth and characterisation of neutron multilayers. The performance of these multilayers is highly dependent on the obtained interface width between the layers, even a modest improvement can offer a substantial increase in reflectivity performance. 7. Structural and Magnetic Properties of Fe/Co (001) and Fe/V (001) Superlattices
Sammanfattning : The structural and magnetic properties of Fe/Co (001) and Fe/V (001) superlattices have been investigated. The thin film structures were deposited on MgO (001) substrates using a four source ultra-high-vacuum based sputtering equipment. LÄS MER
8. Growth of high quality Fe thin films : A study of the effect of mismatch strain on the physical properties of Fe
Sammanfattning : The work in this licentiate is devoted to investigating the epitaxial growth of thin Fe layers on MgAl2O4 (001) and MgO (001) substrates using dc magnetron sputtering. The aim is to qualitatively and quantitatively determine the crystal quality of the grown Fe layers depending on their thickness, substrate material, and selected deposition parameters. LÄS MER
9. The effect of nano-confinement on hydrogen uptake in metallic superlattices
Sammanfattning : The absorption of hydrogen is exothermic in vanadium whereas it is endothermic in iron and chromium. Investigations of the hydrogen uptake within Fe/V(001) and Cr/V(001) superlattices allow therefore a detailed exploration of finite size effects and the influence of boundaries on hydrogen absorption. 10. Hydrogen in ultrathin vanadium layers
Sammanfattning : The influence of elastic boundary conditions on the thermodynamics of hydrogen in vanadium were investigated using resistometry, x-ray diffraction and nuclear reaction analysis. To provide varying lattice strain states Mo/V (110) and Fe/V (001) superlattices with thickness L of individual layers in the range 3-16 monolayers (ML) were used. LÄS MER
