21. Minimal models in algebra, combinatorics and topology
Sammanfattning : The thesis consists of seven papers. In Paper I, II, III, IV and V, we study homological invariants of monomial rings — rings of the form R = k[x1, . . . LÄS MER
22. Tautological Rings of Moduli Spaces of Curves
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to study tautological rings of moduli spaces of curves. The moduli spaces of curves play an important role in algebraic geometry. The study of algebraic cycles on these spaces was started by Mumford. He introduced the notion of tautological classes on moduli spaces of curves. LÄS MER
23. The Theory of Polynomial Functors
Sammanfattning : Polynomial functors were introduced by Professors Eilenberg and Mac Lane in 1954, who used them to study certain homology rings. Strict polynomial functors were invented by Professors Friedlander and Suslin in 1997, in order to develop the theory of group schemes. LÄS MER
24. Integral Closure and Related Operations on Monomial Ideals
Sammanfattning : The motivation for this thesis starts with the theory of Hilbert coefficients. It is a well known fact that given an ideal I the integral closure Ī can be defined as the largest ideal with the same multiplicity as I. For monomial ideals there is an alternative definition. LÄS MER
25. Graded lie algebras in local algebra and rational homotopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers, [A – C]The old conjecture that Poincaré-series of local noetherian rings are rational was disproved by Anick in 1979. Building upon his counter-example, as analyzed by Löfwall-Roos, I construct a Gorenstein ring with transcendental Poincaré-series; by a method of Roos this also gives a manifold whose loopspace has transcendental Poinaré-Betti series.
