6. Heart rate variability and vascular function in healthy subjects and in patients with insulindependent (Type 1) diabetes mellitus
Sammanfattning : The incidence of atherosclerosis parallels the decreasing function of the autonomic nervous system. Both atherosclerosis and autonomic dysfunction are common in patients with diabetes mellitus. LÄS MER
7. Importance of cardiac reserve for evaluation and prediction of cardiac function and morbidity assessed by low-dose dobutamine stress echocardiography
Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to evaluate the cardiac reserves capacity to be used to predict treatment effects, sub clinical heart disease and to evaluate b1-adrenoceptor (AR) gene polymorphism (Ser49Gly). Studies were performed in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, in rats (young, healthy, diabetic and hypertensive), in mice (immunized against the ?1AR) and in heart-transplanted patients. LÄS MER
8. Effects of physical activity and gravitational stress on cardiovascular control
Sammanfattning : The long-term goal of the present work was to characterize the responses to gravitational challenges in exercising humans after long-term head-down-tilt bedrest (HDT). HDT is a simulation of weightlessness with respect to effects on the systemic circulation, and previous studies in resting men have suggested that impairments of arterial baroreflexes contribute to the orthostatic intolerance seen after HDT and spaceflight. 9. Psychomotor and cardiorespiratory functions during inert gas sedation
Sammanfattning : Relative hypoventilation and bradycardia are commonly observed in both resting and exercising divers. Divers are exposed to a complex environment where there are increases of hydrostatic pressure, gas density and partial pressure of sedating inert gas. LÄS MER
10. Risk assessment in patients with acute myocardial infarction treated with thrombolysis
Sammanfattning : Risk stratification in patients with acute myocardial infarction is essential for guiding the clinical decision concerning management. Thrombolytic therapy and other new management policies have led to a significant reduction in mortality from myocardial infarction. LÄS MER
