16. Mesenchymal niche contribution to normal and malignant hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : Normal hematopoiesis is tightly regulated by hematopoietic microenvironment/niche in bone marrow (BM) via direct hematopoietic cell-niche cell interaction and factors secreted by various types of cellular niches. The BM niche consists of cells of mesenchymal cell origin including mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and progenitor cells (MPCs). LÄS MER
17. Thyroid hormone receptors and the regulation of bone physiology
Sammanfattning : The aim of the studies in this thesis was to investigate the role of thyroid hormone receptors in bone physiology. Thyroid hormone signals through its receptors, the TRs, and has profound effects on bone development and metabolism, as demonstrated in hypo- and hyperthyroidism. LÄS MER
18. Neuropeptides in bone and joint tissues : alteration in adjuvant arthitis
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the localization, distribution and quantification of met-enkephalin (Met-enk), neurokinin-A and somatostatin in normal bone and joint tissues of the rat have been studied. Moreover, concentration alterations of these neuropeptides at the site of inflammation in the arthritic ankle joints as well as the spinal cords were evaluated. LÄS MER
19. Studies of specific viruses from Guthrie cards and prognostic markers in bone marrow samples from children diagnosed with leukemia
Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of this thesis was to increase understanding of how molecular processes influence the development and risk assessment of childhood leukemia. Studies I and II investigates whether a specific virus infection in utero could be involved in a “first hit” in leukemogenesis. LÄS MER
20. Cancer imaging and image analysis methods in whole-body MRI and PET/MRI
Sammanfattning : Diagnostic medical imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET) can provide structural and functional assessments of the whole body. This has great value for potentially systemic diseases such as cancer. LÄS MER
