21. Remote Sensing of Carbon Balance across Scandinavian Forests
Sammanfattning : A methodology for estimating the carbon balance across Scandinavian forests using remote sensing is presented. By estimating the gross primary production (GPP) and the ecosystem respiration (ER), and thereby, the net ecosystem exchange (NEE), using parameters that are routinely retrieved from satellite, it is possible to implement an operational model for obtaining large scale NEE. 22. Deep Learning for Active Fire Detection Using Multi-Source Satellite Image Time Series
Sammanfattning : In recent years, climate change and human activities have caused increas- ing numbers of wildfires. Earth observation data with various spatial and temporal resolutions have shown great potential in detecting and monitoring wildfires. LÄS MER
23. Monitoring insect defoliation in forests with time-series of satellite based remote sensing data - near real-time methods and impact on the carbon balance
Sammanfattning : Forests are of major importance to climate change mitigation due to their strong capacity to sequester carbon. Nearly half of the terrestrial carbon is stored in forests, and forests contribute to half of the terrestrial primary productivity, with forests in the mid- and high latitude ecosystems as major contributors. 24. Supervised and Unsupervised Deep Learning Models for Flood Detection
Sammanfattning : Human civilization has an increasingly powerful influence on the earthsystem. Affected by climate change and land-use change, floods are occurringacross the globe and are expected to increase in the coming years. Currentsituations urge more focus on efficient monitoring of floods and detecting impactedareas. LÄS MER
25. Studies of Volcanic Influence on Aerosols, Clouds and Climate
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the influence of volcanism on the compositions of the aerosols in the upper troposphere (UT) and lowermost stratosphere (LMS), and their direct and indirect impact on climate. Aerosol data were obtained by aircraft-borne sampling, using the CARIBIC (Civil Aircraft for the Regular Investigation of the Atmosphere Based on an Instrument Container) platform, and laboratory-based ion beam analysis of aerosol samples at the Lund Ion Beam Analysis Facility (LIBAF).
