    Sammanfattning : Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common rheumatic disease in children. The disease can affect the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and cause orofacial growth disturbances, pain, and jaw dysfunction. TMJ arthritis is often asymptomatic and therefore a challenging joint to diagnose. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Understanding juvenile idiopathic arthritis : a multidimensional approach

    Författare :Raya Saleh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The overarching objective of this doctoral thesis is to enhance the understanding of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), a complex autoimmune disease affecting children. With the aim of filling the knowledge gaps in JIA, we conducted a comprehensive study on biomarkers with distinct biological implications, including genetic variations, autoantibodies, and plasma and synovial fluid proteins, in individuals with JIA and controls. 3. 3. Orofacial aspects of juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children

    Författare :Malin Collin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: This thesis, which investigates orofacial aspects and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement in juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), aims to improve knowledge about the variables to include in a clinical examination, radiographic imaging techniques, and whether saliva can be used as a medium for disease monitoring. Material and methods: In a prospective longitudinal study comprising 59 children diagnosed with JIA, clinical and radiological data were collected. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Studies of the immunopathogenesis of arthritis, with an emphasis on the alarmin HMGB1

    Författare :Heshuang Qu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Dysregulated inflammatory responses are characterized by the excessive release of endogenous inflammatory molecules, which initiate a chain of reactions, including immune cell infiltration, activation, polarization, necrosis, apoptosis and pyroptosis. These changes in cell distribution and status can lead to tissue damage, represented by swelling, pain, redness, heat and loss of function. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Identification and functional characterization of gastrointestinal disease genes

    Författare :Ghazaleh Assadi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are conditions characterized by chronic and relapsing inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. IBD affects around 2.5 million people of European ancestry and the incidence is increasing worldwide (currently, 1% of the population suffers from IBD in Sweden). LÄS MER
