16. Structural studies of the ERGIC-53/MCFD2 glycoprotein transport receptor complex
Sammanfattning : The secretory pathway defines and maintains the intracellular architecture of the eukaryotic cell. Proteins targeted to either the plasma membrane, the extracellular medium or to specific organelles within the cell are dependent on the correct transfer along this pathway. LÄS MER
17. Effect of hyperglycemia on glucose transport and intracellular signal transduction in skeletal muscle
Sammanfattning : Recent studies revealing the components of insulin signal transduction have raised the question of whether the defects in insulin signaling account for disturbed glucose metabolism in people with NIDDM. The major focus of this thesis is to elucidate the role of insulin signal transduction in the development of peripheral insulin resistance. LÄS MER
18. Calcium transport in the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas - in a changing environment
Sammanfattning : Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, is globally one of the most important farmed bivalve species. A prominent features of the C. gigas is the thick CaCO3 shell covering the body of the animal and protecting it from the environment. LÄS MER
19. Mechanisms regulating ion transport in the secretory epithelia of the inner ear : an experimental study
Sammanfattning : The apical portions of the cells in the sensory end organs for audition and equilibrium border a fluid called endolymph. Endolymph is the only extracellular fluid in the body which is characterized by an intracellular-like ion composition. LÄS MER
20. Speciation and Transport of Radionuclides from the Chernobyl Accident within the Gideå Site
Sammanfattning : The transport and redistribution of radionuclides originating from the Chernobyl accident were studied within a 1 km2 area in the northeastern part of Sweden (the Gideå site). Physical and chemical speciation of the fallout radionuclides were investigated on water samples collected within the study site using techniques developed especially for this purpose. LÄS MER
