  1. 16. Growth Hormone and Melanin-Concentrating Hormone receptor in the regulation of energy balance and metabolism

    Författare :Mikael Bjursell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Energy homeostasis ? the balance of energy intake, expenditure, and storage ? is controlled by autonomic regulation originating in the hypothalamus and the brain stem, which receive input from the periphery. Upon receiving signals from the periphery, centres in the central nervous system (CNS) react through endocrine or neuronal responses to maintain a steady balance. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Studies on the influence of sensory stimulation (acupuncture) on neuropeptide release in the saliva

    Författare :Irena Dawidson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :acupuncture; substance P; neurokinin A; calcitonin gene-related peptide; vasoactive intestinal polypeptide; neuropeptide Y; xerostomia; salivary secretion rates;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the mechanisms behind the effect of sensory stimulation (acupuncture) on the salivary flow rates of xerostomic patients. We hypothesised that the sensory stimulation activates the sensory and autonomic nervous systems, leading to an increased release of neuropeptides that influence salivary secretion in co-operation with or/and beside the classical neurotransmitters. 3. 18. A tiny glimpse into the human brain using model-free analysis for resting-state fMRI data

    Författare :Yanlu Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Resting-state functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) acquires four dimensional data that indirectly depicts human brain activity. Within these four dimensional datasets reside resting-state functional connectivity networks (RFNs), depicting how the human brain is organized functionally. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Prostaglandin E2 in Brain-mediated Illness Responses

    Författare :Louise Elander; Anders Blomqvist; Marianne Schultzberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prostaglandin e2; PGE2; cox-1; cox-2; mPGES-1; fever; anorexia; food intake; HPA-axis; EP-receptor; LPS; IL-1; IL-6; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi;

    Sammanfattning : We are unceasingly exposed to potentially harmful microorganisms. The battle against threatening infectious agents includes activation of both the innate and of the adaptive immune systems. LÄS MER
