16. Exploration of Non-Aqueous Metal-O2 Batteries via In Operando X-ray Diffraction
Sammanfattning : Non-aqueous metal-air (Li-O2 and Na-O2) batteries have been emerging as one of the most promising high-energy storage systems to meet the requirements for demanding applications due to their high theoretical specific energy. In the present thesis work, advanced characterization techniques are demonstrated for the exploration of metal-O2 batteries. LÄS MER
17. Electron beam melting: Impact of part surface properties on metal fatigue and bone ingrowth
Sammanfattning : AbstractThe aim of this thesis is to investigate aspects on how additive manufacturing (AM) contributes to functional bone implants with the use of the electron beam melting (EBM) technology. AM manufactures parts according to computer-aided design, and the EBM technology melts powder using an electron beam, which acts similar to a laser beam. LÄS MER
18. Biomaterials for Promoting Self-Healing of Bone Tissue
Sammanfattning : The present work addresses poor bone/implant integration and severe bone defects. In both conditions external stimuli is required for new bone to form. LÄS MER
19. A critical survey of the grain refining mechanisms of aluminium
Sammanfattning : In the present work, several possible interpretations of the grain refining mechanisms of aluminium castings after additions of titanium and boron are compared with the results of critical test experiments. The presence of B does not seem to affect the binary Al-Ti phase diagram close to the A1 comer, except for formation of boride phase. LÄS MER
20. Development of metal hydride surface structures for high power NiMH batteries : Also extended cycle-life and lead to more effective recycling methods
Sammanfattning : By combining alkaline etching of hydrogen storage alloys or their hydrides with a controlled oxidation, it was possible to improve reaction kinetics and accelerate activation of MH-electrodes. Both AB5 and AB2 alloys were studied where A is mixtures of rare earth elements for AB5 alloys and titanium and/or vanadium, zirconium for AB2 alloys; nickel contributes the major part of B. LÄS MER
