Sammanfattning : The aim of the study is to make visible a field of conflicting narratives of modern Sweden expressed by different political groups and to contribute to the working through of the conflict of interpretation. Four political challenges to the established success story of Sweden's development from a poor society to modern welfare state, are analysed: the Left in the 1960s, the new Women's movement in the 1970s, the Alternative movement and the Environmental Party in the late 1970s and early 1980s and, finally, the liberal challenge of the Moderates in the 1980s. Sammanfattning : I den här avhandlingen granskas framväxten av den svenska välfärdsstaten i ljuset av internationell påverkan och kunskapsutbyten med andra länder. Avhandlingen handlar om barnavårdsavdelningen inom Svenska fattigvårds- och barnavårdsförbundet och den reformpolitik som fördes inom avdelningen under 1920- och 1930-talen – det vill säga det tidevarv då den den svenska välfärdsstaten formerades. Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with two series of radio programmes where listeners’ social and personal questions were answered on the air, broadcasted between 1939 and 1968. This is the period in Swedish history which is usually called the era of the folkhem (“The people’s home”) when social reforms, cultural radicalism and social planning – modernization in the cultural, political and material senses – became a broad project and ideology.
