  1. 6. Neighborhood environment and physical activity

    Författare :Ulf Eriksson; kardiovaskulär epidemiologi och levnadsvanor Allmänmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; walkability; land use; residential density; physical activity pattern; accelerometer; public health; walking; GIS; physical activity; Neighborhood;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction Insufficient levels of physical activity are one of the top contributors to global mortality, and it is an important public health priority to increase the proportion of physically active people in the population. The interest in environmental determinants of physical activity has been rapidly increasing over the past few years. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Cold air, physical activity, and the airways : epidemiological and experimental studies

    Författare :Linda Eklund; Nikolai Stenfors; Anne Lindberg; Thomas Sandström; Rita Sjöström; Leif Bjermer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; asthma; asthma medication; athletes; cold temperature; environmental chamber; epidemiology; healthy; orienteers; physical activity; respiratory symptoms; risk factors; skiers; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cold exposure is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Elite cross-country skiers are regularly exposed to cold, dry air and have a high prevalence of asthma compared to the Swedish population. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Aspects of physical activity in Rheumatoid Arthritis : associations with inflammation and cardiovascular risk factors

    Författare :Kristina Hörnberg; Solveig Wållberg Jonsson; Björn Sundström; Christina Helging Opava; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physiotherapy; rheumatoid arthritis; cardiovascular disease; aerobic capacity; physical activity; exercise; primary prevention;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is associated with an increased risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD), partially attributable to systemic inflammation and traditional risk factors for CVD. Since physical activity (PA) is strongly related to CVD in the general population, the aim of this thesis was to describe aspects of PA in patients with RA, and further to analyse associations with disease activity, traditional risk factors for CVD and subclinical atherosclerosis. 4. 9. Physical Activity and Cardiovascular Disease

    Författare :Kasper Andersen; Johan Sundström; Claes Held; Frieder Braunschweig; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical activity; epidemiology; cohort study; heart failure; cardiovascular disease; arrhythmias; atrial fibrillation; bradyarrhythmias; sudden cardiac death; heart failure; stroke; ischemic heart disease; cardiovascular death; maximal exercise capacity; muscle strength; skeletal muscle morphology; Kardiologi; Cardiology; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim was to investigate associations of fitness and types and levels of physical activity with subsequent risk of cardiovascular disease.Four large-scale longitudinal cohort studies were used. The exposures were different measures related to physical activity and the outcomes were obtained through linkage to the Swedish In-Patient Register. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Bone mass and physical activity

    Författare :Anna Nordström; Tommy Olsson; Peter Nordström; Heather McKay; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; physical activity; peak bone mineral density; males; fractures; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Weak and osteoporotic bones in old age are an increasing cause of mortality and painful physical impairment of the elderly, especially in the western world. Bone mineral accrual during childhood and adolescence is thought to play a vital role in preventing osteoporosis. LÄS MER
