   Sammanfattning : Hemostatic and fibrinolytic variables, inflammatory parameters, catecholamines and lipid parameters were studied at baseline, in a long-term prospective study of 809 patients with stable angina pectoris, and compared to results obtained in healthy control subjects (n=50). The prognostic implications of the various parameters at baseline were evaluated, as well as possible influences of drug treatment on these variables and their prognostic implications were studied.    Sammanfattning : The aim was to investigate associations of fitness and types and levels of physical activity with subsequent risk of cardiovascular disease.Four large-scale longitudinal cohort studies were used.    Sammanfattning : This thesis comprises five studies investigating psychological distress in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and Takotsubo syndrome (TS), with a focus on using e-health methods for data collection and delivery of psychological interventions.  The aim of study 1 was to explore the long-term (12 month) effect of an internet-delivered intervention for MI patients experiencing self-reported symptoms of anxiety or depression compared to a control group without access to the treatment intervention.    Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to: (1) explore factors associated with emotional distress; (2) investigate psychosocial stress as a risk factor for cardiovascular (CV) morbidity in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD); (3) investigate the impact of group-based stress management on psychological outcomes, and if that mediates risk of CV events; and (4) evaluate an internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) for emotional distress in patients with a recent myocardial infarction (MI).In Study I, data from the national registry SWEDEHEART on 27,267 MI patients < 75 years was used.    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to assess the prevalence and management of established cardiovascular (CV) risk factors and the prevalence and influence of self-reported markers (number of teeth and frequency of gum bleeding) of periodontal disease (PD), a less explored CV risk factor, in patients with stable chronic coronary heart disease (CHD).We studied patients from the global STabilization of Atherosclerotic plaque By Initiation of darapLadIb TherapY (STABILITY) trial (n=15,828), in which patients with stable chronic CHD were randomized to either darapladib or placebo.
