  1. 11. Type-specific human papillomavirus antibodies : detection, characterization and application in seroepidemiology

    Författare :Zhaohui Wang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :antagonism; antibody; capsids; cervical carcinoma; CIN; epidemiology; HPV; isotype; neutralizing epitope; PCR; STDs; trends over time; VLPs;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted DNA virus that causes several human cancers, notably cervical and other anogenital cancers. The antibody response to this virus is of interest both because knowledge of the antigenic structures that induce protective immunity forms the basis for prophylactic vaccine development and because it forms the basis of seroepidemiology, the method of choice for studies of HPV infectivity, of HPV spread in populations and of cancer risks following HPV exposure. 2. 12. Puumala hantavirus : immune responses and vaccines

    Författare :Cristina de Carvalho Nicacio; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hantavirus; Puumala virus; nucleocapsid protein; neutralizing antibodies; Fab fragment; combinatorial library; phage-display; IgA; cellular immunity; cross-protection; intranasal vaccination;

    Sammanfattning : Hantaviruses (family Bunyaviridae) is a group of closely related zoonotic rodent-borne viruses that are transmitted to humans through inhalation of infected rodent excreta. They cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) or hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) with varying degree of severity depending on the causative virus. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Humoral immunity during primate lentivirus infection : evaluation of B cell apoptosis and engineering of virus specific antibodies

    Författare :Astrid Samuelsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this project was to evaluate the contribution of the humoral immunity in controlling infection with primate lentiviruses - an area which has implications both for vaccine design as well as for understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease. The first goal was to generate efficient neutralizing reagents which could be used for passive immunotherapy trials, preferably in the macaque system, and to investigate if peptide immunogens could elicit such antibodies. 4. 14. The role of virus neutralization in primate lentivirus pathogenesis

    Författare :Yi jun Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The antiviral neutralizing activity of sera from primate lentivirus-infected human and monkey hosts was studied. In addition, factors affecting the neutralization reaction were investigated. In simian immunodeficiency virus (SIVsm)-infected macaque monkeys, SIVsm variants able to escape neutralization emerged regularly. LÄS MER

  5. 15. B cell fate following immunization : from memory B cells to plasma cells

    Författare :Paola Martínez Murillo; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Most approved successful human vaccines induce neutralizing antibody titers maintained above a given threshold for long-term protection against potential pathogen exposure. The pathogens targeted by these vaccines are antigenically stable and the relevant epitopes are immunogenic. LÄS MER
