  1. 16. Insulin resistance and cardiovascular function - Observational, translational and interventional studies

    Författare :Helena Utkovic Westergren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Insulin resistance; microvascular function; peripheral vascular function; coronary flow reserve; prognosis; myocardial perfusion scintigram; animal model;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Microvascular disease is now recognized as an important driver for cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Diabetic patients are known to suffer from this condition, leading to e.g. coronary ischemia as well as kidney dysfunction. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Microvascular effects of insulin in the skin

    Författare :Alexandra Högstedt; Simon Farnebo; Bijar Ghafouri; Erik Tesselaar; Folke Sjöberg; Sven Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The microcirculation in the skin is essential for skin homeostasis. In instances of altered microvascular function, that may be the result of insulin resistance, tissue morbidity may ensue. The underlying mechanisms are however complex and not fully understood. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Vascular effects of prostacyclin in cat skeletal muscle and in the traumatised rat brain

    Författare :Peter Bentzer; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reflection coefficient; cerebral blood flow; hydraulic conductivity; oedema; capilary filtration coefficient; endothelin-1; ATP-dependent potassium channels; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Disturbances in microvascular function may be important for tissue damage in many disease states. Prostacyclin, a substance produced by endothelial cells, is important for the maintenance of normal vascular homeostasis and is a potential drug for treatment of microvascular dysfunction, but indications and optimal dosage remains to be established. 4. 19. Tolerance and injury mechanisms in the developing CNS

    Författare :Malin Gustavsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :hypoxia-ischemia; neonatal; brain; PARP-1; tolerance; global gene expression; apoptosis; cerebral blood flow;

    Sammanfattning : The pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the development of hypoxic-ischemic (HI) brain injury has been the subject of extensive research yet a neuroprotective strategy to limit its progression is lacking.OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present thesis was to obtain a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in neonatal HI, specifically to study I) the involvement of Poly ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP)-1 in HI, II) the effect of hypoxic PC on brain injury and function after HI in the long-term perspective, III) the effect of hypoxic PC on global gene expression, in particular the involvement of apoptosis related genes, and IV) the vascular response to hypoxic PC. 5. 20. Microcirculation in skeletal muscle during hypoperfusion : An experimental study regarding some psysiological and pharmacological factors influencing blood flow and oxygen pressure distributions

    Författare :Urban Gustafsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The vascular bed in skeletal muscle plays an important role in the regulation of the systemic circulation. The present study was undertaken to investigate how capillary blood flow and oxygenation in skeletal muscle are affected by: a) a reduction in the levels of respiratory gases in blood, hypocapnia or hypoxia, and b) the interaction of anesthetics (pentobarbital, propofol, ketamine) during hemorrhage, and c) hypotension induced pharmacologically by adenosine, sodium nitroprusside or acetylcholine.
