2. An epidemiological perspective on heart and lung weight in cardiac and intoxication deaths
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of a medico-legal autopsy is to determine the cause and manner of death. A forensic pathologist makes assessments of this using several sources of information, one of which is the discrepancy between measured organ weight and reference values. LÄS MER
3. Lung volumes and lung mechanics in anesthetized children
Sammanfattning : The thesis was intended to fill gaps in the knowledge regarding the normal development of lung volumes and lung mechanics in children, from young infancy to the mid-teens. In particular, data were previously lacking regarding pre-school children. The studies were done during anesthesia and muscle relaxation. LÄS MER
4. Lung hyaluronan and lung water in the perinatal period
Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan is an important component of the lung extracellular matrix, with a high capacity for water immobilization, but information on perinatal changes in the lung hyaluronan concentration and their association with changes in the lung water content is limited. In this study, conducted both in rabbit pups and in human infants, we investigated changes in the hyaluronan concentration and distribution in the lung and in the lung water content after preterm or term birth, and changes produced by common antenatal and postnatal pathological conditions and treatments. 5. Risk factors for atrial fibrillation in population-based studies : Epidemiological perspectives
Sammanfattning : Atrial fibrillation (AF) is common among the elderly, and has serious consequences such as stroke and increased mortality. Not all of the population attributable risk for AF is explained by known risk factors. LÄS MER
