1. Lung hyaluronan and lung water in the perinatal period
Sammanfattning : Hyaluronan is an important component of the lung extracellular matrix, with a high capacity for water immobilization, but information on perinatal changes in the lung hyaluronan concentration and their association with changes in the lung water content is limited. In this study, conducted both in rabbit pups and in human infants, we investigated changes in the hyaluronan concentration and distribution in the lung and in the lung water content after preterm or term birth, and changes produced by common antenatal and postnatal pathological conditions and treatments. 2. On Neutrophil and Platelet Adhesive Interactions in Septic Lung Injury
Sammanfattning : Sepsis induced by intestinal perforation is a life-threatening illness and is a frequent cause of leukocyte-mediated lung injury. Although antimicrobial therapy has been the central clinical strategy for these patients, the survival rates in such patients are still very low because of their impaired host defense mechanisms. 3. Role of water channels in kidney and lung
Sammanfattning : Aquaporins (AQPs) are membrane proteins that function as water channels facilitating a rapid and regulated transport of water across cell membranes. AQPs in kidney and lung play pivotal roles for the regulation of water homeostasis. LÄS MER
4. Indicator dilution measurement of lung water considerations of the method
Sammanfattning : Objective: Pulmonary oedema is life threatening. A method is needed for reliable measurement of lung water in man in order to clarify aetiology, pathophysiology, prognosis, and to evaluate treatments against pulmonary oedema. LÄS MER
5. Lung growth and lung hypoplasia in congenital diaphragmatic hernia
Sammanfattning : Pulmonary hypoplasia and persistent pulmonary hypertension are the main causes of mortality and morbidity in newborns with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Prenatal tracheal occlusion or ligation (TL) is known to accelerate lung growth, but the mechanism of this is poorly understood. LÄS MER
