  1. 41. Climate Effects on Phytoplankton Biomass and Functional Groups

    Författare :Hampus Markensten; Donald Pierson; Kurt Pettersson; Bengt Boström; Colin Reynolds; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Climate change; phytoplankton; chlorophyll a; Lake Mälaren; Galten; PROTBAS; numerical modeling; water quality; succession; shallow lake; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Future climate in temperate regions is projected to get warmer and in many cases wetter. This poses questions about how phytoplankton in our lakes will respond. LÄS MER

  2. 42. Cryptic coloration, microhabitat choice and polymorphism in Idotea baltica (Isopoda)

    Författare :Sami Merilaita; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I have studied cryptic coloration, microhabitat use and colour polymorphism in the marine isopod Idotea baltica. In the Baltic Sea it lives and feeds mainly on the seaweed Fucus vesiculosus, which in sheltered sites usually is whitespotted on its lower parts due to epizoites. The white-spotted morph of I. 3. 43. Trade-offs between life history traits and immune defence in the collared flycatcher Ficedula albicollis

    Författare :Dag Nordling; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the effects of reproductive effort on immune function and parasite resistance in breeding collared flycatchers, Ficedula albicollis. It also focuses on the role of the immune function in the trade-off between number and fitness of offspring. LÄS MER

  4. 44. Causes and consequences of quantitative trait variation for reproductive performance in hole nesting birds

    Författare :Robert Przybylo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; timing of breeding; climate change; parental and territorial quality; morphology; sexual size dimorphism; intersexual niche differentiation; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Animal Ecology; zooekologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the causes and consequences of environmental variability and individual morphological differences on breeding success and survival in three hole nesting birds.An analysis of directional and stabilising natural selection in Collared Flycatchers (Ficedula albicollis) suggested that forces of selection acting on quantitative traits are weak and cannot explain the observed sexual size dimorphism (SSD) in this species. 5. 45. Ecology and control of Anopheles mosquitoes and human malaria in Guinea Bissau, West Africa

    Författare :Katinka Pålsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Anopheles; Bed nets; Epidemiology; Malaria control; Natural mosquito repellents; Plasmodium; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Entomology; entomologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis analyses the relationship between risk of exposure to infective Anophelesmosquitoes and different environmental factors, in particular house construction, presence ofdomestic animals and house location, in coastal Guinea Bissau, West Africa. The potentialeffect of permethrin-impregnated bed nets on mosquito abundance in bed rooms, and on thePlasmodium parasite prevalence in children was also analysed. LÄS MER
