  1. 1. Gastric Inhibitory Polypeptide in the brain

    Författare :Jenny Nyberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :neural progenitor cells; neural stem cells; hippocampus; cell proliferation; GIP; neuropeptides; insulinotropic; gastrointestinal;

    Sammanfattning : The hippocampus is an area of active cell proliferation and neurogenesis within the adult mammalian brain. Adult neurogenesis is of great importance for the brain, since it increases neuroplasticity and the ability to respond to environmental stimuli. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanism of pure glucose-dependent insulinotropic activity of a novel imidazoline compound BL11282

    Författare :Vladimir Sharoyko; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Insulin secretion; pancreatic islets; imidazolines; BL11282; arachidonic acid; phospholipase; cytochrome P-450; GLP-1; desensitization; Rhes;

    Sammanfattning : We developed a novel, pure glucose-dependent, insulinotropic imidazoline compound, BL11282, which directly affects the insulin exocytotic machinery and does not block the KATP channel activity. BL11282 does not induce insulin secretion at basal glucose concentrations, whereas it stimulates insulin secretion at an elevated glucose level. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The endocrine heart - metabolic actions of atrial natriuretic peptide

    Författare :Amra Jujic; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial natriuretic peptide; type 2 diabetes; rs5068; insulin resistance; glucose dependent insulinotropic peptide; glucagon-like peptide-1; left ventricular hypertrophy;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract The natriuretic peptides (NPs), namely atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and bran natriuretic peptide (BNP), which are secreted from cardiomyocytes in response to cardiac wall stress, play a significant role in the regulation of blood pressure, intravascular volume, and cardiac remodeling. Recently, NPs emerged as hormones with metabolic actions such as inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system and inhibition of inflammation, together with lipolysis and adipose tissue browning. 4. 4. Mechanisms of impaired insulin release in type-2 diabetes : studies in the GK rat model

    Författare :Amel Guenifi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Goto-Kakizaki GK rat; Type-2 diabetes; insulin secretion; morphometry; adenylyl cyclase AC ; phospholipase-C PLC ; ß-cell;

    Sammanfattning : Type-2 diabetes is a complex syndrome with a polygenic and multifactorial aetiology. It is characterised by its relatively late appearance in life and its mild progressive course. Glucose intolerance can generally be ascribed to disturbed pancreatic hormonal secretion and/or insulin resistance in the liver and extrahepatic tissues. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effects of imidazoline compounds on intracellular CA2+ and apoptosis

    Författare :Ioulia Appelskog; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :imidazolines; imidazoline site; sulfonylurea; glucose; interleukin-1beta; insulin secretion; glucagon; somatostatin; pancreatic islets; pancreatic P-cells; HIT-T15 cells; apoptosis; cytoplasmic free Ca2 concentration;

    Sammanfattning : Cytoplasmic free Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i) plays a pivotal role in the regulation of insulin release from the pancreatic beta-cell. [Ca2+]i is also important in the control of apoptosis. LÄS MER
