1. Left ventricular hypertrophy and the insulin resistance syndrome
Sammanfattning : Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and the insulin resistance syndrome are common conditions associated with a markedly increased cardiovascular risk. In a fairly large prospective longitudinal study of men from the general population, we found that an unfavorable serum fatty acid profile and components of the insulin resistance syndrome such as dyslipidemia, obesity and hypertension at age 50 predicted the prevalence of LVH at age 70. 2. Studies on malignant ventricular tachyarrhythmias and their treatment with an implantable defibrillator
Sammanfattning : Aims: To investigate the hemodynamic, metabolic and autonomic effects of ventricular fibrillation per se during maintained circulation. To study the defibrillation threshold (DFT) and efficacy of a new and thinner ICD lead (DSP) compared with the standard lead (C). LÄS MER
3. Diastolic heart function in hypertension-induced left ventricular hypertrophy
Sammanfattning : Hypertensive left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy is an independent strong risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. An abnormal diastolic relaxation in the absence of systolic impairment is often seen in patients with hypertension, whether LV hypertrophy is present or not. LÄS MER
4. Lung Emphysema & Cardiac Function
Sammanfattning : Patients with severe lung emphysema have poor quality of life because of impaired lung function and reduced exercise tolerance. Concomitant heart disease in severe emphysema is well recognised. The prevailing view is that mainly the right side of the heart is involved, while the issue of left ventricular (LV) involvement is less studied. LÄS MER
5. Mitral Ring Motion in Assessment of Left Ventricular Function
Sammanfattning : The motion of the mitral ring was studied with M-mode echocardiography using the apical four- and two-chamber views. With the purpose of obtaining adequate reference materials for mitral ring motion, 70 healthy subjects were studied. LÄS MER
