  1. 1. Human intraepithelial lymphocytes : a comparative study of phenotype, morphology, and functional properties of intraepithelial lymphocytes in gut and oral mucosa

    Författare :Carina Lundqvist; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sten Hammarström; Per Brandtzaeg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intraepithelial lymphocytes; alimentary tract; intestinal epithelium; gut luminal antigens; gingiva; γδ T cells; immunoelectron microscopy; cytokine mRNA; RT-PCR; extrathymic T cell maturation; RAG-1; periodontitis; mucosal immune system; CD4-CD8- αβ T cells; CD8 γδ T cells;

    Sammanfattning : Human intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) constitute a unique cell population situated in the first line of defense of the alimentary tract. Here they are continuously exposed to a massive antigenic load of high complexity. However, different conditions prevail along the alimentary tract. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy

    Författare :Hari Shanker Sharma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; blood-brain barrier; heat stress; hyperthermia; brain edema; serotonin; nitric oxide; carbon monoxide; heat shock protein; glial fibrillary acidic protein; myelin basic protein; opioids; histamine; catecholamines; naloxone; indomethacin; p-CPA; electron microscopy; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 3. 3. Immunocytochemical studies of cutaneous nerves in human normal and prurigo nodularis skin

    Författare :Yong Liang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Axon; CGRP; ECP; EDN EPX; eosinophil; histamine; HLA-DR; immunoelectron microscopy; Langerhans cell; mast cell; NSE; nerve fiber; p75 NGFr; PGP 9.5; prurigo nodularis; S-100; Schwann cell;

    Sammanfattning : Cutaneous nerves may regulate the immune system and be involved in inflammatory events of the skin. Prurigo nodularis is a skin disease which histologically reveals a massive neural hyperplasia and a local inflammation in the lesional skin. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Characterization of novel podocyte proteins in the glomerular filtration barrier

    Författare :Laleh Sistani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The kidney is considered the most important organ of excretion eliminating the body from metabolic waste products. The nephron is the functional unit of the kidney, composed of a cluster of capillaries named glomerulus, and a tubular system. The blood is filtered in the glomerular capillaries across the glomerular filtration barrier. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neuropeptides in bone and joint tissues : alteration in adjuvant arthitis

    Författare :Adlan Mahmoud Elhassan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the localization, distribution and quantification of met-enkephalin (Met-enk), neurokinin-A and somatostatin in normal bone and joint tissues of the rat have been studied. Moreover, concentration alterations of these neuropeptides at the site of inflammation in the arthritic ankle joints as well as the spinal cords were evaluated. LÄS MER
