  1. 1. Pathophysiology of blood-brain barrier, brain edema and cell injury following hyperthermia : New role of heat shock protein, nitric oxide and carbon monoxide : an experimental study in rat using light and electron microscopy

    Författare :Hari Shanker Sharma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; blood-brain barrier; heat stress; hyperthermia; brain edema; serotonin; nitric oxide; carbon monoxide; heat shock protein; glial fibrillary acidic protein; myelin basic protein; opioids; histamine; catecholamines; naloxone; indomethacin; p-CPA; electron microscopy; immunocytochemistry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Human Anatomy; anatomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the molecular mechanisms of hyperthermia induced brain damage in rats. The results clearly establish that hyperthermia caused by 4 h heat stress at 38° C is associated with a breakdown of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability which seems to be instrumental in causing brain edema and cell injury. 2. 2. Neuron-glial Interaction in the Developing Peripheral Nervous System

    Författare :Mikael Corell; Åsa Fex Svenningsen; Klas Kullander; Helgi Schöith; Heape Anthony; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Schwann cell; nonmyelinating Schwann cell; myelinating Schwann cell; development; proliferation; differentiation; myelin; neural stem cell; central nervous system; peripheral nervous system; enteric nervous system; N-cadherin; GABA; GAD; GABA B receptor; baclofen; CGP55485; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The nervous system, including the brain, is the most sophisticated organ in the mammalian body. In such a complex network, neuron-glial interaction is essential and controls most developmental processes, such as stem cell fate determination, migration, differentiation, synapse formation, ensheathment and myelination. 3. 3. Development of MALDI Mass Spectrometry Imaging Methods for Probing Spatial Lipid Biochemistry of Amyloid Plaques in Alzheimer's Disease

    Författare :Ibrahim Kaya; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; Lipids; Amyloid plaques; Mass spectrometry imaging; MALDI; Trimodal MALDI; Static MALDI; Dual polarity MALDI-MSI on the same pixel points; Neurodegeneration; Immunopathology; Amyloid peptides; APOE; Myelin; Sulfatides; 5xFAD; tgSwe; tgArcSwe; APP;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most prevalent cause of neurodegenerative dementia. Aggregation of amyloid β (Aβ) peptides into extracellular Aβ plaques is one of the major neuropathological features of AD. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Schwann cells and mesenchymal stem cells as promoter of peripheral nerve regeneration

    Författare :Maria Cristina Mantovani; Mikael Wiberg; Giorgio Terenghi; Susan Shawcross; Lev Novikov; Liudmila Novikova; John W Haycock; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; peripheral nerve regeneration; Schwann cell; adult stem cell; myelin; senescence;

    Sammanfattning : The transplantation of primary Schwann cells (SC) has been shown to improve nerve regeneration. However, to monitor the survival of transplanted cells within the host, a stable labelling method is required. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Cerebral white matter changes in patients with cognitive impairment - clinical and pathophysiological aspects

    Författare :Michael Jonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; white matter changes; vascular factors; cognitive impairment; neuropsychiatric symptoms; cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers; demyelination; axonal degeneration;

    Sammanfattning : Cerebral white matter changes (WMC), detected with computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), represent a common condition in elderly people. However, the prognostic, symptomatological and biochemical constituents of WMC are only partially known. LÄS MER
