1. Impaired Glucose Tolerance in Childhood Obesity : Contribution of Glucagon, GLP-1 and Inflammation
Sammanfattning : In the wake of increased obesity prevalence, impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in childhood and adolescence is increasingly common. Given the negative impacts these conditions have on health over time, understanding the pathophysiology in those affected early in life is important. LÄS MER
2. Assessment and Treatment of Impaired Insulin- Secretion and Action in Type 2 Diabetes
Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a disease characterised by varying degrees of defect in insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity and associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Optimal glycaemic control reduces the progression of diabetic complications. LÄS MER
3. Peripheral immunity in patients with autoimmune endocrine diseases and the influence of physiological adaptions during pregnancy
Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D), Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT), Graves’ disease (GD), and autoimmune Addison’s disease (AD) appear to share immunogenetic mechanisms. This idea is not novel, as “autoimmune tautology” is an established concept. LÄS MER
4. Metabolic alterations in patients with self-inflicted aggressive behaviour
Sammanfattning : Self-inflicted aggressive behaviour is a cross diagnostic phenomenon of major clinical relevance in psychiatric setting. Accumulating evidence speaks for a role of metabolic and immunological factors in aggressive behaviour. LÄS MER
5. Characterization of Impaired Glucose Tolerance - Insulin Sensitivity, Islet Function and Metabolic Risk Factors
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a three-year prospective study on metabolic characteristics of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and the regulation of insulin sensitivity versus islet function in relation to changes in glucose tolerance. 108 non-diabetic women aged 57-58 years were randomly selected from a population of women born in 1935 with a high prevalence of IGT.
