  1. 1. Free fatty acids and insulin hypersecretion studied in human islets

    Författare :Jing Cen; Peter Bergsten; Miriam Cnop; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; free fatty acids; palmitate; human islets; EndoC-βH1 cells; metformin; sorcin; insulin secretion; mitochondrial respiration; ER stress; human transcriptome array; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Free fatty acid (FFA) levels are increased in many obese subjects. High FFA levels stimulate the pancreatic beta-cells but have negative long-term effects. In obese children with high FFA levels circulating insulin concentration is high early in life but decline with age precipitating the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Chemo-Enzymatic Epoxidation of Unsaturated Fatty Acids

    Sammanfattning : Epoxy fatty acids are useful molecules and find a number of applications e.g. as PVC plasticisers and stabilisers, additives in polyurethane production, reactive diluents in paints, corrosion protection agents, etc. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Effects of Free Fatty Acids on Insulin and Glucagon Secretion : – with special emphasis on the role of Free fatty acid receptor 1

    Författare :Hjalti Kristinsson; Peter Professor; Birgitte Holst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FFAR1; GPR40; palmitate; lipotoxicity; islets of Langerhans; type 2 diabetes; obesity; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is still rising and even so in the juvenile population. Obesity is highly associated with increased risk for developing T2DM. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Short- and long-term effects of long-chain free fatty acids on pancreatic α- and β-cell function

    Författare :Charlotta Olofsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetologi; sekretion; Endokrinologi; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; type-2 diabetes.; intracellular free Ca2 ; exocytosis; Free fatty acids; pancreatic α- and β-cells;

    Sammanfattning : We have investigated the in vitro effects of long-chain free fatty acids (FFAs) on mouse pancreatic α- and β-cells by a combination of electrophysiological recordings, intracellular Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) microfluorimetry and hormone release measurements. Acute addition of the saturated FFA palmitate to intact islets doubled insulin as well as glucagon secretion in the presence of 1 or 15 mM glucose and the FFA remained capable of enhancing release of both hormones in islets depolarised with high K+ in the presence of the KATP channel opener diazoxide, indicating that alterations of ATP sensitive potassium (KATP) channel activity is not part of the effect. 5. 5. Effect of Wood Constituents Oxidation of Unsaturated Fatty Acids

    Författare :Alireza Salehi Movahed; Mats K.G. Johansson; Mats Johnssson; Karin Jacobsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wood constituents; oil; oxidation; unstatured fatty acids; lignin; model lignin compounds; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning : This work presents the mechanisms of free radicals in a model system between fatty acids oxidation process and wood components. The aim is to create a better understanding of new environmentally friendly materials for exterior wood protection. LÄS MER
