  1. 1. Anthropogenic influence on climate through changes in aerosol emissions from air pollution and land use change

    Författare :Juan Camilo Acosta Navarro; Ilona Riipinen; Annica M.L. Ekman; Hans-Christen Hansson; Risto Makkonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; Air quality; Land use; General circulation; Atmosphere-Ocean interactions; Aerosol climate effects; Earth system modelling; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Particulate matter suspended in air (i.e. aerosol particles) exerts a substantial influence on the climate of our planet and is responsible for causing severe public health problems in many regions across the globe. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Lake sediments around the Antarctic Peninsula : archives of climatic and environmental changes

    Författare :Rolf Zale; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lake sediments; Antarctic Peninsula; radiocarbon dating; climatic and environmental changes; sediment chemistry; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Lakes and lake sediments from four areas around the Antarctic Peninsula are described.The concentrations of trace metals in sediment are found to be a useful tool in distinguishing between the different sedimentary phases during a transition from marine to limnic environment.     Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Agriculture development; food production; per capita food supply; consumptive water use; evaporation; transpiration; hydro-climatic variability; blue water resource; green water resource; irrigation; river depletion; river basin closure; adaptive water management; vegetal and animal foods; Jordbruksutveckling; matproduktion; per capita mattillgång; konsumerande vattenanvändning; evaporation; transpiration; hydroklimatisk variabilitet; blåvattenresurs; grönvattenresurs; bevattning; uttorkning av vattendrag; överintecknade avrinningsområden; anpassad vattenhantering; vegetarisk och animalisk föda.; Water in nature and society; Vatten i natur och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Water constraints for humans and nature are gaining more and more public attention as a critical environmental dilemma that needs to be addressed. When aquifers and rivers are running dry, the debate refers to an ongoing “world water crisis”. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Environmental and climatic changes in the Baltic Sea and the eastern Mediterranean Sea : as recorded by pigments and isotopes in sediments

    Författare :Johanna Borgendahl; Rolf Hallberg; Joyanto Routh; Stefano Bernasconi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a study of Holocene sapropels from two semi-enclosed seas; the Baltic Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. Sapropels are sedimentary layers with organic C > 2%. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Factors regulating the origin and magnitude of carbon dioxide emissions from high-latitude lakes

    Författare :Hendricus Verheijen; Jan Karlsson; Cristian Gudasz; David A. Seekell; Marcus Klaus; Anne Ojala; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lake; carbon dioxide; organic carbon; inorganic carbon; arctic; emission; environmental science; miljövetenskap; climate change; klimatförändringar; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Lake ecosystems receive, transmit and process terrestrial carbon and thereby link terrestrial, aquatic and global carbon cycles. Most lakes evade CO2 to the atmosphere, but the annual magnitude of CO2 evasion, as well as sources and mechanisms underpinning CO2 evasion from lakes are still largely unresolved. LÄS MER
