  1. 1. Gene regulation by chromatin remodelling complexes : SWI/SNF complex in mRNA processing and B-WICH complex in ribosomal gene expression

    Författare :Antoni Gañez Zapater; Ann-Kristin Östlund-Farrants; Christopher W.J. Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chromatin remodelling; SWI SNF; Brg1; Brm; alternative splicing; cleavage and polyadenylation; B-WICH; WSTF; ribosomal genes; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this project is to investigate the roles of chromatin remodelling complexes in gene regulation. It is focused on two groups of chromatin complexes: the mammalian BRG1 and BRM SWI/SNF complexes and the ISWI-containing B-WICH complex.Study 1 investigates the role of SWI/SNF complexes in alternative splicing. 2. 2. Regulation of Mammalian Poly(A) Polymerase Activity

    Författare :Ann-Charlotte Thuresson; Barklie Clements; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicine; poly A polymerase; PAP; polyadenylation; isoforms; phosphorylation; alternative splicing; CPSF interaction; aminoglycosides; Biomedicin; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Poly(A) polymerase (PAP) is the enzyme catalyzing the synthesis of the adenine tail to the 3’-end of mRNA. This A-tail is present on the majority of the primary RNA transcripts of protein-coding genes, and is important for mRNA stability, export to the cytoplasm and translation. Therefore, PAP is a key regulator of eukaryotic gene expression. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The SWI/SNF complex : Roles in transcription and pre-mRNA processing

    Författare :Johan Waldholm; Neus Visa; Ann-Kristin Östlund; Silvia Barabino; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Splicing; Gene regulation; SWI SNF; polyadenylation; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The regulation of gene expression is fundamental to the development of complex organisms and an important driving force in this process. When and where the genes are expressed decide the fate of a cell and its physiological context in the organism. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Functional aspects on the Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 5

    Författare :Martin Dufva; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epstein-Barr Virus; EBV; B-cell; transformation; cDNA array; polyadenylation; transcription; cell cycle; apoptosis; two-hybrid system.;

    Sammanfattning : The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infects resting B-cells. This leads to an EBV driven transformation of the resting B-cell into a cell with an activated B-cell phenotype that proliferates indefinitely in vitro. Epstein-Barr Nuclear antigen 5 (EBNA5) is one out of six EBV encoded protein involved in transformation of resting B-cell. LÄS MER

  5. 5. ATPase dependent and independent roles of Brahma in transcription and pre-mRNA processing

    Författare :Simei Yu; Neus Visa; Ann-Kristin Östlund Farrants; Christian Muchardt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chromatin remodeling; transcription; alternative splicing; 3 -end processing; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : SWI/SNF is a chromatin-remodeling complex and Brahma (BRM) is the ATPase subunit of SWI/SNF. BRM regulates transcription by remodeling the nucleosomes at promoter regions. BRM is also associated with RNA and affects pre-mRNA processing together with other SWI/SNF subunits. LÄS MER
