6. Big Lessons from Small Bacteria : Following Photo-driven Processes in Photosynthetic Systems with Multidimensional Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Sunlight is a plentiful, continuously flowing source of energy, fuelling life on Earth as we know it. To use this potential, plants, cyanobacteria and photosynthetic bacteria evolved to absorb solar radiance and convert it into a chemically stable form by performing a process known as photosynthesis. 7. Magnesium Chelatase: Insights into the first Step of Chlorophyll Biosynthesis
Sammanfattning : The enzyme magnesium chelatase inserts magnesium into protoporphyrin IX (Proto) to produce to magnesium protoporphyrin IX, the first unique intermediate of the chlorophyll biosynthetic pathway. Magnesium chelatase is composed of three distinct proteins termed I (molecular weight ~40 kDa), D (~70 kDa) and H (~140 kDa). LÄS MER
8. Ferrochelatase and Magnesiumchelatase: Metal chelation studied with mutants
Sammanfattning : Magnesium chelatase and ferrochelatase are two very important enzymes, which are involved in chlorophyll and heme biosynthesis, respectively. They both use protoporphyrin IX as substrate but magnesium chelatase inserts a magnesium ion whereas ferrochelatase inserts a ferrous ion. These two enzymes have been studied in this thesis. LÄS MER
9. Enzymatic metal-chelation by porphyrins
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the structure and function of two different enzymes, ferrochelatase and magnesium chelatase, that catalyse similar reactions. When this work started, a three-dimensional model of ferrochelatase existed. Much was known about the enzyme, but some details remained unclear. LÄS MER
10. Dissecting the photosystem II light-harvesting antenna
Sammanfattning : In photosynthesis, sunlight is converted into chemical energy that is stored mainly as carbohydrates and supplies basically all life on Earth with energy. In order to efficiently absorb the light energy, plants have developed the outer light harvesting antenna, which is composed of ten different protein subunits (LHC) that bind chlorophyll a and b as well as different carotenoids.
