11. Daylighting Systems : Development of Techniques for Optical Characterization and Performance Evaluation
Sammanfattning : Successful integration of daylighting systems requires the ability to predict their performance for given climates. In this dissertation, a bottom-up approach is applied to evaluate the optical performance of a selection of daylighting systems. LÄS MER
12. Design, Characterization, and Calibration of Low-Noise Terahertz Receivers
Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on the field of instrumentation for radio-astronomy and atmospheric science, and specifically deals with problems such as optical design and its verification, horn antennas and receiver optics’ components, different aspects of measurement systems in order to characterize low-noise THz receivers, and its calibration techniques.Ultra low-noise Terahertz receivers, used in radio-astronomy, are typically coupled to the telescope system through relay optics that provides guiding of the signal to the receiver frontend with minimal loss. 13. Growth and Characterization of Strain-engineered Si/SiGe Heterostructures Prepared by Molecular Beam Epitaxy
Sammanfattning : The strain introduced by lattice mismatch is a built-in characteristic in Si/SiGe heterostructures, which has significant influences on various material properties. Proper design and precise control of strain within Si/SiGe heterostructures, i.e. LÄS MER
14. Modeling of dose and sensitivity heterogeneities in radiation therapy
Sammanfattning : The increased interest in the use of light ion therapy is due to the high dose conformity to the target and the dense energy deposition along the tracks resulting in increased relative biological effectiveness compared to conventional radiation therapy. In spite of the good clinical experience, fundamental research on the characteristics of the ion beams is still needed in order to be able to fully explore their use. LÄS MER
15. Design and Performance of Optically Pumped Semiconductor Disk Lasers with Wide Tuning Ranges
Sammanfattning : In this work I present a strategy for providing the possibility to select the wavelength, or color, of a semiconductor laser over a very large range, by cleverly designing the vital part of the laser: the gain element of a so called optically pumped semiconductor disk laser. Optically pumped semiconductor disk lasers (OP-SDLs) are a relatively new class of lasers showing great promise for future applications. LÄS MER
