  1. 1. Bark Biorefinery : Isolation, Characterization and Application

    Författare :Isabella Kwan; Monica Ek; Åsa Emmer; Anette Larsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sustainability; bark; biorefinery; Norway spruce; nanocellulose; Pickering emulsion; organosolv; extraction; lignin; Hållbarhet; bark; bioraffinaderi; gran; nanocellulosa; Pickering emulsioner; organosolv; extraktion; lignin; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Sammanfattning : To fulfill the United Nations’ 17 sustainable development goals, there is a need to transition from a petroleum-based society toward a more sustainable one which requires new solutions and the production of materials, chemicals, and energy from renewable resources. Using side-stream products from industries to produce value-added products will be economically beneficial. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Microbes Associated with Hylobius abietis : A Chemical and Behavioral Study

    Författare :Muhammad Azeem; Anna Karin Borg-Karlson; Irena Valterová; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hylobius; Ewingella; Penicillium; Heterobasidion; Bacteria; Fungi; Bark; Forest waste; Metabolites; Styrene; Methyl salicylate.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on three inter-related studies: the first part deals with the microbial consortium, the identification of microbes and their volatiles, the second part deals with the study of bio-chemical control methods of two conifer pests; the pine weevil Hylobius abietis (L.) and the root rot fungi Heterobasidion spp. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Process development and environmental assessment within softwood based biorefineries

    Författare :Karin Carlqvist; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sugar platform; extractives; steam explosion; pretreatment; bark; enzymatic hydrolysis; phenolic compounds; bioeconomy; LCA; Pinus sylvestris; Picea abies; pine; spruce; sockerplattform; extraktivämnen; Steam explosion SE ; förbehandling lignocellulosa; bark; enzymatisk hydrolys; fenoler; bioekonomi; LCA; Pinus sylvestris; Picea abies; tall; gran;

    Sammanfattning : We urgently need to move from a fossil-based to a bio-based society. From a Swedish perspective, a promising way forward are biorefineries with an integrated production of materials, chemicals, and energy from the softwood species Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norway spruce (Picea abies). 4. 4. Isolation, Synthesis and Structure-Activity Relationships of Antifeedants against the Pine Weevil, Hylobius Abietis

    Författare :Carina Eriksson; Christina Moberg; John Pickett; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pine weevil; Hylobius abietis; semiochemicals; antifeedant; feeding deterrent; feeding stimulant; bark extract; carboxylic acid; piperidine alkaloids; structure-activity; cinnamic aldehyde; benzaldehyde; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The large pine weevil, Hylobius abietis L., is a major insect pest on conifer seedlings in northern Europe. Due to its feeding newly planted trees get girdled, resulting in high seedling mortality (up to 80%). As a consequence great financial losses to the forest industry occur. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Inferring Land Use from Remote Sensing Imagery : A context-based approach

    Författare :Michael Meinild Nielsen; Bo Malmberg; Anders Wästfelt; Douglas A. Stow; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; land use; remote sensing; urban remote sensing; image analysis; segmentation; spatial context; land cover; land cover configuration; farming types; bark beetle; dead trees; forest inventory; kulturgeografi; Human Geography;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis investigates the potential of classification methods based on spatial context to infer specific forms of land use from remote sensing data. The problem is that some types of land use are characterized by a complex configuration of land covers that traditional per-pixel based methods have problems classifying due to spectral heterogeneity.
