  1. 1. Just or Unjust : Assessment of rainfall-related flood damage in a Swedish context

    Författare :Shifteh Mobini; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Equity; flood damage; pluvial flooding; damage claim;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change has led to an increase in heavy summer rainfalls, and climate projections for Sweden indicate that there will be more sudden rainfall in the future. While the exact locations and time for this rainfall are unknown, it is known that there will be damages to buildings, cars, and people when the rainfall occurs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Water in roads: Flow paths and pollutant spread

    Författare :Hedi Rasul; B. Olofsson; Helen Kristine French; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; De-icing salt; Road; Tracer test; ERT; Water content; Road pollutants; Flow pathways; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Sammanfattning : For better road construction and maintenance while minimising damage to the environment and groundwater, it is essential to monitor and model hydrological impacts on roads and consider pollution of groundwater. Water content in unbound material in road layers changes continuously and water flow usually occurs along pathways that are the main corridors for pollutant spread to groundwater. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Reducing water damage by using a holistic approach to costs, occurrence and solutions in buildings

    Författare :Christian Mattsson; Avdelningen för Installations- och klimatiseringslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Water damage; building defects; Tap water; Costs; Sewage; Heating; Leakage; Vattenskador: byggnader; byggnadsdefekt; kostnader; avlopp; värmesystem; läckage; tappvatten;

    Sammanfattning : A large amount of water damage cases and resources are annually reported and spent on water damage in Sweden from cases occurring in buildings from building services such as tap water-, sewage, heating systems, household appliances such as refrigerators, freezers and dishwashers and inadequate waterproof membranes in wet rooms. These water damage cases in buildings cause several problems in the built environment regarding economic, environmental, and social aspects of sustainability such as unhealthy indoor environments due to higher levels of moisture, mold growth, and redundant usage of building materials and resources in reparations and renovations of water damaged constructions, immense amounts of monetary resources spent annually by both residents, building owners and insurance companies to restore the buildings to their designed purpose. 4. 4. Interaction of Hurricanes and Natural Coastal Features: Implications for Storm Damage Reduction

    Författare :Ty Wamsley; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Louisiana; Barrier island; Vegetation; Flooding; Waves; Storm surge; Hurricanes; Mathematical modeling; Storm damage reduction;

    Sammanfattning : It is generally acknowledged that wetlands and barrier islands can reduce surge and waves. However, while a general qualitative understanding of these interactions is available in the scientific literature, quantification of these interactions is lacking and has previously been based on limited data of relatively poor quality. 5. 5. Impacts of climate oscillation on precipitation and river flows of small scale river basins in Eastern Northeast Brazil

    Författare :Denis Duda Costa; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eastern Northeast Brazil; Droughts; Floods; Climate patterns; Hydrological model; Weather radar;

    Sammanfattning : The Northeast region of Brazil is one of the most susceptible parts of the country to the effects of climate variability leading to severe droughts or extreme floods. Indeed, drought is a major issue due to a large semiarid area that covers 53% of the region, which determines the main climate characteristics of this region. LÄS MER
