21. Genetic studies of neuroblastoma with emphasis on the apoptotic pathway
Sammanfattning : Aim: The objective of this thesis was to find genes and chromosomal regions involved in neuroblastoma (NB) tumor progression. NB is a childhood tumor of the sympathetic nervous system that generally occurs spontaneously. LÄS MER
22. Endocrine and paracrine factors related to pregnancy and infertility
Sammanfattning : Unexplained infertility, one of the common gynecological disorders, affecting 10 to 15 % of women worldwide. Recurrent pregnancy loss affects approximately 1 to 3 % of pregnant women with an unknown etiology in 50 % of cases. Endocrine dysfunctions, including thyroid dysfunction, are one of the related factors to female reproductive disturbances. LÄS MER
23. Genetic association studies in stroke
Sammanfattning : Stroke is the third most common cause of death and the most common cause of disability in adults in developed countries. It is a complex disease in which genetic and environmental factors make about equal contributions. LÄS MER
24. PPAR delta : its role in cholesterol metabolism
Sammanfattning : Peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPARs) are ligand-activated transcription factors that regulate several biological processes, many of which are crucial for energy homeostasis. Three different isotypes have been identified; PPARalpha, PPARdelta and PPARgamma that are encoded by different genes and show different expression patterns and functions. LÄS MER
25. On the Tissue-type Plasminogen Activator (t-PA) -7,351C>T Enhancer Polymorphism. Importance for endothelial t-PA gene expression and arterial thrombotic disease
Sammanfattning : Local endothelial release of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) is an important thromboprotective mechanism. Earlier work by our group has identified a common single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at the t-PA locus (-7,351C>T), located within a GC-box in the retinoic acid (RA) and steroid hormone responsive t-PA enhancer.
