6. The clinical use of genetic analyses in colorectal cancer
Sammanfattning : Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common global disease, with a mortality rate of almost 50%. Prognosis is mainly based on the TNM classification. Surgical interventions have the potential of being curative in patients with stage I-III CRC. Adjuvant treatment with chemotherapy enhances the survival rate, especially in stage III cancer. LÄS MER
7. Molecular phylogeny, classification, evolution and detection of pestiviruses
Sammanfattning : The genus Pestivirus comprises four recognised species: Bovine viral diarrhoea virus 1 (BVDV-1), Bovine viral diarrhoea virus 2 (BVDV-2), Border disease virus (BDV), and Classical swine fever virus (CSFV); and a tentative species, Pestivirus of giraffe. Recently, additional pestiviruses have been identified and presumed as novel subgroups/species based on single gene analyses that reveal different relationships among pestiviruses, depending on the genetic regions being analysed and the methods used. 8. Molecular Diagnosis of Common Viral Infectious Diseases Based on Real-Time PCR
Sammanfattning : Molecular biology has become an integral part of the diagnosis of infectious diseases. Recently, quantitative real-time PCR (QPCR) methods (often in the form of so-called TaqMan® systems) have been developed for the diagnosis of a wide range of infectious diseases; these techniques found valuable clinical application in the diagnosis and evaluation of progress and therapeutic success of viral diseases. 9. Quantitative analysis of disease associated mutations and sequence variants
Sammanfattning : A solid-phase sequencing technique was applied to quantify the mitochondrial A3243G mutation in three families with maternally inherited diabetes and deafness. A correlation between the level of heteroplasmy and age at onset was found. LÄS MER
10. Functional genetics of the interleukin-4 receptors in allergic asthma
Sammanfattning : Asthma is a complex disorder, with both genetic and environmental factors contributing to disease development. Our aim was to analyse possible associations between genetic variations of immunologically important genes and the susceptibility to and severity of allergic asthma in adults. LÄS MER
