  1. 1. Thermodynamic study of the FeO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system : Data assessment and phase diagram calculation

    Författare :Olga Fabrichnaya; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation consists of assessed thermodynamic properties for phases in the geologically and industrially important system Fe-Mg-Al-Si-O and calculated phase diagrams. Mathematical processing of different kinds of experimental data (phase equilibrium data, calorimetric, volumetric, thermophysical,electrochemical, activity data) is used to derive internally consistent thermodynamic database. 2. 2. Phase transitions in high-temperature superconductors

    Författare :Jack Lidmar; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Superconductivity; Vortices; Phase transitions; Strongly correlated fermions; High-temperature superconductivity; Monte Carlo simulations.; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Thermal fluctuations and disorder strongly influence the behaviour of hightemperature superconductors. In particular the vortices play a key role in determining their properties. In this thesis the main focus lies on phase transitions, both in ultra-thin films and in three-dimensional systems, which are driven by vortex fluctuations. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Thermodynamic and kinetic properties of Fe-Cr and TiC-ZrC alloys from Density Functional Theory

    Författare :Vsevolod Razumovskiy; Pavel Korzhavyi; Andrei Ruban; Malin Selleby; Sergei Dudarev; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ab initio; first principles; point defects; vacancy clusters; alloys; steels; iron; carbides; diffusion; phase diagram; density functional theory; elastic constants; elastic properties; thermodynamic modelling;

    Sammanfattning : The complete and accurate thermodynamic and kinetic description of any systemis crucialfor understanding and predicting its properties. A particular interest is in systemsthat are used for some practical applications and have to be constantly improved usingmodification of their composition and structure. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Temperature dependent atomic-scale modeling of interfaces in cemented carbides

    Författare :Martin Gren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hardmetals; analytical bond order potential; wetting; WC-Co; density functional theory; free energies; interfaces; complexions; cemented carbides; phase diagram;

    Sammanfattning : Material properties can now be calculated directly from first principles using density functional theory (DFT) which has a great predictive power and can, in cases that are difficult to approach experimentally, provide crucial insights on the atomic and electronic level. Such cases include the thermodynamics of interfaces and surfaces which are crucial factors for the structure and macroscopic properties of many materials, where cemented carbides are one example.
